Extended Warranty - Who has one?

There is such a long thread on extended warranties. I was wondering how many people have actually purchased one or not.

I do not plan to purchase one. This is my first Toyota and ½ the reason I bought it is because of their reputation for reliable cars.

I got one. I don't know why I am such a sucker for extended warranties.

I'm trying to wean myself of them. The only instance where one came in handy was when my original Xbox died, but I was the one who killed it.

Anyway, with the hefty price tag of the HL Limited I figured I might as well throw a little more on top to save any unforeseen issues down the road.

7/75/$0 Platinum warranty for $550 was worth it to me. One thing that goes bad after the 3/36 and it pays for itself. Plus u get 4 more years on road side assistance.

At $1099 for a 4 year/100000km and $3299 for a 7 year/200000km (plus 13% tax)...I'll take my chances without one. And if I actually end up on the hook for repairs more than $1099 worth of items from year 3 to year 4...or $3299 from year 3 to year 7, I would have to reevaluate my opinion of Toyota.

When I leased my 2005 Camry and 2005 Corolla, I bought the 7 year/100000km warranty for $700 for each vehicle. Aside from the 4 free oil changes, it ended up being a donation to Toyota Corp. Nothing went wrong with the Corolla from year 3 to 4, and for the Camry, I had one tie rod end replaced ($700+ at Toyota, but it would have been alot less at my mechanic's garage). Perhaps if I had access to a 7 yr extended warranty for $550, I would rethink this.

Do you have to purchase through a dealer to have this option or can it be private party?
