Has anyone heard of this recall applying to the HL V6? Since the same 3.5 liter V6 is used in our vehicles it only makes sense that there maybe the same issue as the Lexus vehicles that use the same engine, i.e. the ES350 etc.
What is the recall? Are the symptoms a lower idle, vibration at idle and a helicopter type sound while idling? Hope not, because i just noticed that on my Highlander this AM!
Sorry, here it is. Seems like a "Valve spring"... wonder what the symptoms are:
HA! Ha! Ha! My first ever Japanese car and I've had tranny problems, recalls and now a possible engine problem. It figures. There goes Toyota's reputation for Quality cars.

Sounds like you may have a problem with one of your engine mounts.

Media makes every Toyota problem blown out of proportion. It's funny to see people being upset about potential future problems that media brought up but not having any troubles today. It's a widely known fact that early current gen Camrys had transmission problems and repairs were covered by the factory warranty. Any car can break down, buy extended warranty if you're planning to keep a car longer then 3 years. I currently own 2 Toyotas. One is almost 3 years old 2008 HL and another 2.5 year old 2009 Camry. I didn't have any issues with neither of these cars besides recall work being done. HL rattles a bit when cold but this is pretty much it.
I forget to mention that last year I saved 1/2 price of wonderful vacation in Mexican Riviera Maya because of media induced swine flu paranoia. Too bad I don't need a car right now otherwise I'd be taking advantage of Toyota incentives.
exactly, toyota uses this engine in a wide variety of models. camry v6, toyota avalon, highlander v6 models, lexus es350, IS350 with different manifold and direct injection system, lexus rx350 all are basically the same engine but tune a little differently.
The problem stems from a malfunctioning robot that installed the valve springs at the Tahara plant where these engines used in the Lexus models were built. It does not affect engines built in America for the Camry, Avalon, etc.

The overwhelming silence suggests the question is not relevant to the recall and most likely you are more at risk from drivers in Kuwait than having a valve spring fail.
