XM/SIRIUS in 2009 Highlander Limited

Hello all,

First of all let me apologize if this has already been answered. I have found some people that have discussed the topic but not all answers are consistent.

I have a 2009 Highlander Limited (not hybrid) with the navigation system (JBL I believe). I am interested in installing and activating the satellite radio.

The dealer is asking a lot of $$ to do the install and I am not confident I can do it myself. I've talked to Best Buy and they will do it for under $100 but they don't have the parts and told me I need to go find them on my own.

Does anyone know what parts I need to buy to get XM/Sirius installed? I'm also assuming that since XM and Sirius are the same company that it really doesn't make a difference whether the products are XM or Sirius. Is this correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Rich.

I went with the TOY-SC1 and the SCVDOC1 because I already had a portable tuner.
You could sub the SCVDOC1 for the SCC1.
I didn't have a factory antenna so I installed the aftermarket antenna on the back roof centered in the middle. I believe you can buy an antenna adapter to utilize your factory antenna.
Also, I did not remove the stereo to install the TOY-SC1. Instead I removed the glove box and glove box trim and had just enough room to stick my hand in from the side and plug it in the back of the stereo
This was done in a 2008 HH with am/sat button no jbl

Thanks Astralplane. The JBL system that I have has navigation as well as a AM/SAT button. I was lead to believe that it already has the XM antenna installed (but am not sure). So all I would need is:
  • TOY-SC1
  • SCC1 (I don't know what the difference between SCVDOC1 and SCC1 is)
  • Antenna adapter - any idea which model number?
Is this correct?

You first need to decide on sirius or xm.
The items that I used are for sirius
Maybe someone can suggest a vendor that supports this site, but you can google the items for more info.

Also, here are a couple of threads that discuss satellite radio installation
Sirius Satellite Radio
and
How to: Sirius Radio installation

Does your HL already have a sharkfin or whatever on the back end of the roof? If so, then your system is already prewired (likely XM) for satellite and you likely just need a Fit Kit.

The Fit Kit will integrate with your head unit and allow you to control channel surfing etc from it.

Here's the XM fit kit: http://www.trdparts4u.com/scripts/pr...product=326684

However if you choose Sirius (I would), you can order the Sirius Fit Kit, but if your system is prewired for XM, I believe you need an XM to Sirius converter. Not exactly sure about much more than that. You may also need a sharkfin antenna adapter.

Converter is here: http://www.tss-radio.com/products/to...erface-toy-sc1

Adapter is here: http://www.tss-radio.com/products/le...ntenna-adapter

Don't take my word as Gospel, this is just from what I remember when I had this same issue.
