Multi-Display Question

Has anyone installed the multi-information display after the fact? My 2010 Highlander base came with just the clock and I would REALLY like to have the multi-display. It seems like the necessary wiring would be there. Can it be as simple as swapping them out? Does anyone have the part numbers for the display and the steering wheel switch?

Just for clarity, I am referring to the clock/temp/trip comp/etc above the radio. I'm not too concerned with the backup camera that I think may also work with this display.

Tom

Search keyword MFD (multi-function display) and you should find the links below containing information you're looking for but nobody has successfully added the MFD; not that I know of:

MFD Harness

What is it called

Unhappy Mfd

Thanks Cashmachine. I had done a search using different terms but hadn't heard it called MFD or Multi-Function display. The various threads that turned up (including the two links you included) were not very encouraging. After further investigation, it appears the Highlander are NOT pre-wired for the MFD if they didn't come with it (two different harnesses). They would only have one of two different plugs, either a black 4-pin (for the clock) or a white 16-pin (for the MFD). Looks like I'm out of luck on that one.

No problem. Try contacting your local Toyota service guy and ask them whether your 2010 Base is pre-wired because MFD is an upgradable option for 2010 unlike 2008 and 2009. Just ask them whether extra wire harness is needed or only the MFD unit is required. As far as whether the steering control is pre-wired, the only way is to remove your steering airbag module to check if the spiral connector have an extra receptacle to plug in the connector for steering controls. I have been trying to add steering control to my 2008 Base and even bought an old Camry steering column for the mod but it seems the wire harness to the headunit is missing 3 wires that are used for the control. I might try to add those 3 wires to make it work but my interest has reduced significantly because of the need to remove the headunit.

Anyway, good luck with the MFD addition quest.
