Is there a flash-upgrade for brakes?

I know this has been raised in other threads, but the question of whether the 2010s have - or are getting - a brake override system is critical to my decision on whether to buy a 2010 Highlander. I asked the dealership, and never received a straight answer (actually they were very defensive - even though I already bought a Toyota from them in '06), and I cannot find a definitive answer anywhere online. Some contributors to threads in this forum have stated that their dealership did a flash upgrade to get a brake assist or brake override capability on their Highlander - implying it is a software upgrade rather than a hardware change. I would greatly appreciate any solid information.

I'm not certain of the answer to your question, but I can say that the Highlander's brakes are adequately sized to stop the vehicle, even while moving at highway speeds and with full throttle applied. Also, you can shift to Neutral or shut the engine off, and there have been no legitmate reported cases of Highlanders with throttle problems/running away.

I have a 2008 HyHi. There is a flash upgrade for the brakes, however the dealer would not perform the upgrade without it being part of the full recall measure: Grind the brake pedal and update the software. Not one or the other. Its all or nothing.

I opted not to let them grind the petal. If my vehicle fails to stop and it turns out to be a software issue I will sue because I requested the software fix and they did not do it. It is not required to grind a pedal for software to be uploaded.

When I brought my HH in for the floor mat recall, the did grind down the accelerator and when I asked about a software re-flash there wasn't any. The dealer is very good and when we reviewed the recalls for the HH, it was just accelerator grinding and winter mat replacement.
