Purchased our 2010 SE Highlander last month and have no complaints so far. Sandy Beach Metallic with no extra accessories except had dealer install side body molding and purchased mud guards from TRDparts4u and installed myself with zero problems with perfect color match. What are your thought about changing the oil at the 1K mile range since the SUV was manufactured in March 2010 and dirty oil. I think we are really going to enjoy the Highlander. Used this forum to gathering information before purchasing the Highlander and I THANK YOU.

Congratulations on the new purchase, and welcome to the Highlander forums!

Opinions vary, but I never put much stock in the statements that there are additives in the oil, etc., that allow it to go 5,000 till the first oil change. I changed mine at 1,000 miles, as did a lot of other members here at around the same mileage.

Still waiting for my delivery on the new car, should be next week. I looked today and found color match mud guards. They did say I need Body Side Molding. I don't have that now but can you verify it is the molding going down the rocker panel under the door? I am not looking for the door banger molding, don't like the look. If I can ask, how much was the body side molding at the dealer? Also, what was involved with the install of the mud guards? Did you need to drill through the sheet metal?

The side body molding was as you mentioned the door banger kind. The look hasn't bothered me. Dealer charged $150.00 installed. I think I could have done it but I chickened out. No drilling with mudguards but the rear ones have 3 places all ready
visible on edge of fender well that you can punch out easily for screws to attach. Took less than an hour. Good luck!

Thanks pinetree but something bothering my brain. Why do you need Body Side molding in order to use mud guards? Does not seem to me that there is any relationship. I was on a site that indicated, only way to use mud guards is with a BSM option??

Bob, There is no connection between the two. The body side molding is to keep my doors from being dinged in parking lots. I just like the mud guard look. These are just two items I wanted that were not on my Highlander.

Thanks the reason I asked was on a auto parts selling site, they said you need BSM option. I'm thinking huh? Body Side Molding?
Anyway, good luck and many happy miles in the new pup.

I changed mine at 1k, 5k, 10k, 15k, etc. My piece of mind is worth $25.
