I am definitely adding fog lights and still not happy about them not being a base option. I am also mildly irritated that we don't have a temp gauge in the base. I can add one to the home-link mirror with a compass for 100 bucks more. Not sure about spending the extra bucks for the temp but I miss seeing it.
BTW, I bought some Weather-tech floor mats that look great, fit great. I think carpet floor mats get trashed/wet/mud/snow to fast to look good very long.

Thanks. Yeah, do miss not having the temp gauge. It's almost a necessity in my area because I like to know when the roads are getting close to freezing temps. But, alas, I don't plan on doing any mods to this one. Okay, that's a lie. One of the first things will be to replace the junk stock headlight bulbs to a whiter light. Neither one of us can see very well with the darn stock "pinkish" light they put in vehicles. Luckily, the interior color is the same as we had in the old highlander, so our costco floor mats will still match. I love the costco mats for the price. They're heavy, flexible, don't move around, and are deep to hold the snow/mud in the winter. I'm a floor mat stacker.

But the costco mats have to be trimmed around the foot rest which prevents them from sliding forward, don't extend anywhere near the gas pedal, and are just plain too heavy to move around.
It does amaze me on what Toyota was thinking with options and such. No fog lights, no sunroof, and no homelink as standard??? Our last HL had the homelink and it was a base model with upgrades like leather, JBL Stereo, Sunroof, etc. So I feel like we may have downgraded on a few options, but overall the 2010 is so much more for the money with a much nicer interior and larger vehicle.
One thing I am glad we got (and I made sure it had it) was the cold weather package just for the windshield deicer grid alone! To think it wasn't even offered on the Tacoma which we take everywhere in the snow (why they don't offer it on vehicles designed for use in the snow, I just don't get because we had an older Sienna 2wd that had it!). There have been so many times I've had to stop and clear off the piles of snow under the wipers before they break. I noticed on the HL, they added extra deicer grid lines under the passenger side down low and up the whole side of the driver's side near the pillar.

Those are the areas that get the most snow buildup in the Tacoma, so they at least did their homework there. Oh, and I like the fact that they're using snow-friendly wipers without all the exposed joints to freeze up. So I shouldn't have to go out and spend money on replacing them before winter.
One other thing we need to do is deal with the lack of a cargo net in the back. We had it in our old one (and I still have the net just not the screw hooks), but it appears the new ones use the grocery hooks in the back. That means it's a good 6 inches lower than the one for the 05. So I don't think we're going that route. I use a bungee behind the seats to keep the spare cooler and small container full of things like maps, spare jacket, etc from sliding around, but it would be nice to have something to keep small things from moving around that doesn't take up space (this is why the net was so handy). I've seen a couple of options in searching, so I'll be checking those out to see if they'll work.
