I'm currently negotiating for a 2010 Highlander SE, I am currently being offered $31,500 before taxes and fees. This includes a remote starter installation and also the free 2 year maintenance program. Out the door price is approximately $33,500.
Do you guys think this is a good deal? Should I hold out for lower? What have you guys paid for it? One thing that gets me is that the maintenance program offer is about to expire, if I'm paying a little extra, is it worth it for the maintenance? I usually change oil myself but when it's under warranty I rather have a dealer record in case anything goes wrong.
Thanks in advance for your help!
(PS: If there are any dealers out there, feel free to email me at vctrliu -at- gmail.com if you want to reach a deal. I live in the Madison, WI area)
i just got an se last weekend for 29500, mine wasn't at the port yet so i only had them add tint and floor mats. i'm adding back seat dvd and a navigation unit myself.
I did mine through the internet usaa.com
tgatesp: could you tell me a little bit about the process through usaa.com? how long did it (will it) take? were there membership fees?
also.. it seems like they have some pretty good discounts on other stuff as well, do you also buy your insurance through them? (yea, i'm insurance shopping too)
I played hardball, I went to Overstock.com and clicked cars. I built a base unit that comes in about 5K under sticker. I printed it and went to the dealer. I said I only wanted 4 things and one (the last one listed) was a tongue in cheek. I said it must be Blizzard White, a V6, leather and a steering wheel. They said the leather can be added at the port for 1K. They use factory leather.
They explained Overstock prices things a-la-carte. That means they do not take into consideration you can't buy just what you want without a package option on most of it. I told them I did not care, this is what I want and this is what I am willing to pay.
I got just about my exact request with the only options on the sticker were multi player CD, tow package with beefed up components in the engine compartment and a light package and roof rails. It also had 3rd row delete which for some reason was a $661.00 option. Why would I need to pay NOT to have 3rd row? I did not want it but how can they justify that money not to have it? I do have a cargo hatch back there instead of 3rd row. It did not even have floor mats. I bought a set of weather-tech mats that look and fit fabulous. This week I add a Homelink mirror with temp and compass. I will also add fog lights because the front on the base just does not look right with 2 black holes where the fogs should be located.
Anyway, I hope someone gives me a thumbs up on the price, out the door, all tax and BS fees and the leather for $27500.
Tip, do not hit the enter button on the Overstock link if you intend to go to the dealer with the print-out. That will cost them 300 bucks. You can use that $300 as a negotiating tool.
One more tidbit. The salesman said I was smart to do it this way rather than just showing up and blowing smoke out my butt saying "I want to pay this price." If you have some hardcore printouts in your hand, you have credibility.
BTW, they did not have the car in stock and I gave the OK to take their time finding it. I let them know I was OK waiting, it took about 6 days for them to find it. They worked pretty darn hard in order to keep my business from drifting away to the next dealership.

You have to be active duty military, retired, or the dependents of someone who has served in the military to be a member of USAA.
