power steering fluid??

OK I give up-The owners manual makes no reference to power steering fluid, a toyota publication for all fluid recommendations for the 08 Highlander lists Power Steering fluid as NA and there is no reservoir in the engine compartment that I can locate. Is it a sealed system or what?

There is no power steering fluid. It's not a hydralic system, rather an electronic motor.

A description is located here (they used to be a sticky but got unstuck somewhere along the line..hint hint TrailDust)

EPS system

You will quickly come to the realization that you are driving a Computer on Wheels.

Other references of interrest

Here is the description of the AWD system. It is a full time AWD system with a 50/50 torque split

Highlander AWD

Toyota uses VSC and TRAC control to distribute torque to individual wheels

Description of TRAC

Highlander TRAC

Description of VSC

Highlander VSC

So in summary the AWD system is simplistic with a 50/50 torque split and the torque to the wheels is computer contolled braking using VSC/TRAC

Was it? It's been so long I don't remember....hey, no jokes about getting old! Sounds like it should be added to both sticky threads for people looking into power steering info. I'll do some editing later today and include it.

Thanks for the information, I was totally unaware that it was not a hydraulic system.
