XM Radio

I recently purchased a 2010 Highlander SE and was under the impression that the vehicle was "XM Ready". I assumed that all I needed to do was activate an XM subscription. This is not the case. The vehicle apparently needs an XM receiver, which the dealer quoted to me at $547 + tax installed. WTF?

Anybody out there with XM radio experience and advice?

Edge,
Frustrating isn't it...we have shared the same experience. I know that I have read somewhere on this forum that the install is not terribly complicated. You can order the receiver and fit kit (2 different parts/items) via an online store for right around $270 so that may save you some change. Regarding install; the factory instructions tells you to mount it under the drivers seat, however I have read that an easier install is to put the receiver behind the glove box. The good thing about the 2010 is that the antenna is already installed on the roof with the wire pre-run to the back of the radio.
Take a second to do the search and hopefully you can locate the article regarding the install behind the glove box (took less than an hour to install this way).
Good luck,
Bryan

weird that it costs so much, when we originally ordered ours i didnt request the xm. I called back and have them add it on at a cost of $350 (before i took delivery) and it all worked out perfect. Factory look and install, which is much cleaner than the alternative.

Good luck
