So it's that time of the year, and this year I’ve decided to look into getting a car starter for my highlander, I have a 2009 Limited with push button start.
I was looking into getting a 2-way Viper.
Can anyone recommend me something on this subject?
Thanks,
K
I could be a "Richard" and tell you to use the "search" tool, but I am not. Whatever you do, if there is anything I have learned in my short Toyota life, if you understand anything I say in this mix of words, if you only get one thing from all my rant, is, dont get the Factory remote start.
That said, the Viper is, I think, the best. From reading reviews and stuff. The two way page mile range. All the extras. You might have to carry two remotes if you dont want to surrender the valet one. But shite mate, if I would have known, I would have gotten the Viper.

And you will have to carry the OEM proximity FOB to actually drive the vehicle away. The insurance company will deem your vehicle 'unsecure' if you override the DEI security for push button start vehicles (of course that is if they find out), but DEI will not stand by their guaranty because they did not design the system to be installed that way.
Believe me, I WISH the DEI FOB had the proximity chip inside (or if it was a learning proximity FOB--unheard of) so I would only have to carry one. So I will initially install for the two FOB solution and test some ideas. (see if I can get a loner setup to R&D, test and evaluate).
I have the factory remote start and it works great.

One of several reasons I did not go with the Limited was the push button start and the hassle with aftermkt auto start security options. That said, seems that push button start is becoming more and more common these days, and may be standard on many cars in a few years, so some solution will be found I'm sure.
I have the Viper 5901 2-way security auto start combo and it is fantastic. Amazing range.

Thank you for the replies and suggestions. I was going back and forth with this decision mainly because I know some people that got it done on their push button start and there were major problems afterwards. Then I went to my dealership and they were telling me all the negatives if I get it done somewhere else other than the dealership. That manufacture one is the ONLY way to go.
Then I moved into a different city and the dealership there actually suggested that I do it elsewhere. The manufacture is not the best one and it’s only a super short distance.
I’m getting it on Monday, very exciting I’ve decided to go with 2 Way but not getting Viper anymore, I’m getting CompuStar for 3000 feet range. We’ll see what’s the outcome is going to be.
Thank you all again.
