Question Decoding engine name, model#, & serial#

When it comes to the name of engines, like the 2GR-FE engine which is the available 3.5L V6 engine in the non-hybrid Highlander, what do the numbers and letters mean about the engine?

PS: any info. on decoding engine model# and serial# is appreciated also.

Is there a way to find more information thats more detailed?

Also, because the 306HP 2GR-FSE Lexus engine is pretty much a direct and ported injection version of this engine and I believe is built from the same parts, does that mean the parts of the 2GR-FE engine with 270HP could safely withstand 306HP?
