Rear heater question

Could some of you with the basic HL and manual rear AC/heat let me know if air coming from the rear roof vents is hot ? I have mine set to the most heat on both the front and rear controls and the rear air is slightly warm. Also if you can set front on cold and rear on hot and see if setting In front control make the difference on the temperature in the back? Is the rear unit intended for both AC and heat or AC only?

Maybe we can play around with ours today. We'll be heading to friends on a long drive and it's in the 20's outside. I can tell you that, yes, it works with both AC and heat. I do know it does come out warm in the back (haven't tried setting front to cool and rear to warm...and don't know that we'll want to in these temps). But whether the roof vents are "hot" versus "warm", I haven't paid that much attention.

My daughter sits on the passenger side in the back seat and I do know that with the AC that roof vent works better at getting cold with the AC than the one behind the driver's seat. So I'm guessing that one has a more direct route. Not sure which vent you're checking (if you're not checking all of them).

This was one of the first things we tested with the AC because our '04 Sienna we used to have almost never got cold air flowing out of those ceiling vents with the AC in summer. I was pleased to find these actually work in the HL.

Okay, we checked it out today (it was actually 30 degrees out by the time we left). Had my wife reach back and put one hand on the passenger rear overhead vent and the other hand on the front dash vents. Both were coming out at the same hot temperature. What's interesting is that I turned the fan off on the front and turn the temp in the front to cold, and she said the rear vent then got hotter. Not sure if that was due to the front temp being turned down or the front fan being turned off (and it was just too cold out to keep playing around with it). Point is, it should be coming out plenty hot in the back. You might want to turn the front fan off and set the front dial to cold and compare that to the rear to see if it makes a difference in yours.

Were you able to get this resolved? We just picked up an 08 Highlander and I've noticed the rear heater doesn't blow very hot.
