USA Split Radiator!

My new 2010 Base AWD with only 2500 miles on it had a split radiator.

I took it in because I fried my tow package wiring harness (my fault, my boat trailer), plugged it in to check the lights and had smoke coming from under the dash.

Kudos to my dealership they replaced the wiring harness no charge with a stern reminder that next time it was my problem. BUT while they had it they noticed that the radiator (plastic) was splitting away from the metal bracket all along the top of the radiator. You could see the dried pink residue from where it had leaked and dried out.

They had to order one over the weekend and gave me a Tundra as a loaner.

They told me that they had never seen a radiator problem like this on a very new car.

I too have the 2010 Base 4wd V6 with 3700 miles. I noticed a dried pink stain on the rear of the 2 fans. It looks like there is a small rubber tube at the neck of the radiator fill tube, and a little bit of coolant leaked out. I washed it off with a hose. I'm going to mention at 1st oil changed.

Can you folks provide some pics for reference? Your dealership is cool compared to the crappy one here in town. I've sealed the deal for a 2011 HL on 24 Nov with all the trimmings and as of today, I have not yet actually seen my wife's HL. The salesman sucks big time since the deal is now done he keeps giving me bad info. I finally spoke with the manager in charge of inventory and he is trying to get it from Jacksonville to this nasty town I am stuck for the next 3 yrs within the next two days. They only laughed when I asked for a loaner Tundra as I was eager to dump the POS trade in.
I will not even take it in for the free oil changes. They suck.

Sorry for my rant but I feel a tiny bit better. I hope this leak you guys speak of is nothing serious that will affect the 2011 my wife is getting since we got the tow package with AWD...Not to common on this part of the ghetto.

I've noticed several pink colored drips on the fans and at the bottom of the shield under the engine. I also notice the overflow line has acouple of drips down also.

I called the dealer today (Courtesy) as they have service 7 days a week. They said come in and they looked at it and said there was no leak. They pressure tested and check radiator. They said the coolant may have been high and it let some out. I'll keep watching it. Delaer also changed oil/filter and rotated tires as part of Toyota Care. $0.00 They said they used semi-synthetic oil.

My oil fill cap say 5w30. I was told it came with dino. The dealership recommends 0w20 synthetic. I stayed with what Toyota care paid for. Service rep said the oil was Chevron semi-synthetic. 5k oil changes.
I understand the 2011 comes with synthetic. 0w20.

Mine is also leaking antifreeze at the same location and the little tank which was almost full of pink liquid is empty. Is there something wrong with the cooling system? My warranty will expire in two weeks.

I recommend you get in for service ASAP! I have not seen any more leaking. I checked several times. The dealer pressurized the system and there are no leaks. My plastic overflow tank is right at full. I have not seen any more leaking from the overflow hose. My wifes 2009 Rav4 V6 has an overflow, but no hose connected. I see no leakage on hers.
I spoke with the tech who checked mine and he said he does see some leakage sometimes from the overflow.
Several thoughts:
1. Could be because of tow package radiator.
2. Could be just break-in
I now have 4500 miles. I'll keep watching .

I just left my 2010 Limited Highlander to the dealer about the leak on the top of the radiator. They told me this is the first time they seen a problem like this, they ordered a new one and gave me a 2012 camry LE for a loaner. I had 11xxx something on the odometer. Also test drove 2012 Tacoma 4x4 double cab off road. Is this a southeast problem? Seems like most of the people had this problem was from southeast.

#1 doesn't mean perfect or problem free - just better than anything else. You could always get a Jeep Grand Cherokee..

All vehicles had some issues. Hopefully this radiator thing is not a trend!

and so do I.... It's never too late to sell what one has and move on to another "better" vehicle... or accept the idea that nothing is perfect.

Just to put things into perspective. I work on new airplanes that can't make one flight with 70 people on board, without breaking.
