remote starter for 2010 highlander

Seasons Greetings!
Very happy with our recent purchase of a new 2010 Highlander for the wife and newborn babe. Too big for our little garage so was hoping to surprise my wife with a Toyota remote starter only to find out that Toyota has discontinued their starter for this year. Anybody know anything about this? Didn't want to go aftermarket for fear of disrupting the warranty. Sad and disappointed. Any suggestions?

They did?
It should be P/N PT398-48083. Can I post links? I really should read forum rules more often. I was just getting ready to research this on my 2010 as well. I was looking at some of the DEI alarms with the 1/2 mile range and iPhone support though. I am curious as to what happened to it if it was discontinued. Toyota has done some strange things in the past.

Here's the installation instructions for that if anyone cares (again, if I'm not supposed to post links like that, google the part number and it's #2)

I just read the description on that first link. It lets you start your Toyota from a whopping 80 inches away

The ONLY good thing about the Toyota remote start is that it shares the fob with the alarm, etc. Other than that the range stinks, I have to open the front door to start the Highlander or Sequoia because it will not work through glass.

Weird...seems like that's the part...not sure why the dealer told me that it's been discontinued...

Most OEM starters are sub-standard, but please tell me you're exaggerating about the range being that bad. If not, sounds like that option is a total scam.

My Viper starts up to a mile away. I love the fact that I can start my car just as I am paying for my purchases at Costco, grocery or any retail store, especially when its really cold out. Also, because it's a 2-way remote, I know if it has started or not, or if doors are unlocked or not. Temperature read out is kind of pointless but its there.

Yes! That's what I'm after... Do you have any suggestions or regrets on the Viper? That's the one I'm leaning towards at this point.

No regrets whatsoever. It has more features than I need (like auto start if temp drops below certain temp, etc etc.) but as far as security and auto start, which is what really matters, works perfectly.

The only issue to consider is whether you have push button start. I don't....actually one of the several reasons I went with the Sport rather than the Limited. Push button is a bit of a challenge, and may require carrying two fobs around. Not sure if there is a bypass for this now or not.

If no push button, you will need a bypass for your chipped key however...that usually runs another $80 - $100.

Key to it all - a reputable installer you can trust - and hopefully one that solders all connections. Can't stress this enough.

Cheers.
