So why doesn't Traction Control stay disabled?

I was playing around in the snow a bit yesterday with the traction control turned off. After letting the tires spin several times, I heard the TC beeping, and the TC light on the dash started blinking. The TC remained off until I let off of the gas, then TC became re-enabled. I am very surprised by this and I don't understand why TC comes back on when I let off the gas after TC detected wheel slippage with TC off.

Is this how the HL's TC works? What would be the reasoning for re-enabling TC after I deliberately de-activated it?

To fully disable, you need to push the button for a couple of second while on stop. You should see in your dashboard the two traction control indicators lit.

What do you mean by "two traction control indicators"? I think I've only seen the one.

You have Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control - TC and VSC. You push and hold the button for 2-3 seconds longer and you should see both icons light up indicating that both Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control are disengaged.

To reengage TC/VSC just push/hold the button until both lights are extinguished, or shut the engine off and then restart it.

That is SOP on Toyota vehicles with that feature.
