Hi all. I had a strange thing happening twice this week. Never noticed it before since the truck is parked reverse at home but then, at a friend's home, you could not miss it...
The headlights lit themselves, for about 30 seconds then turned of. The first time the truck had not moved for a day and the second time for about 5 hours. keys were in my jacket, 30 feet from everybody.
Could not make it on time to the car before light turned off. Anybody has a clue on what's going on??? I tried to search but could not find anything relevant.
Sounds like the lights were set to the Auto position and they came on with the emission control system: 2008 fuel pump running while off
I know the first people that did a DIY Mod on the Tacoma for the foglights on anytime wired them to one that came on every 5 hours or so when it did its emissions check. I have no idea if the HL's headlights are supposed to be wired into the same power source or not? I wouldn't think so.

You did not mention how dark it is or if you have the auto setting for the headlights. Assuming both are true
If you drive in and it gets dark enough for the Auto setting to turn on the headlights they will stay on for 30 seconds (this is the factory default setting)
I had the dealer set mine to 0 seconds delay
Now my when I turn off the ignition the headlights go off as soon as the drivers door is opened

Yes, the setting was on auto but as i said the truck as been stoped and still for a couple of hours before it happened. First time was during a sunny day and the second time during the evening.

That makes it sound like they're wired to the power feed for the emissions control. Ours sits in the garage and we never leave it on Auto, so I have no idea if it's normal. I can't see how it would be any different on yours than any other HL out there. After all, they're using wiring harnesses. It must be happening to everyone, we just haven't noticed it. Either way, go ahead and check with the dealer and at the same time don't worry about it. It may be weird, but there's no harm in it.

DRL at off., no noise at all from the car. No indicator lit inside. I unlocked the doors open and closed the lights, lock the door and it stayed the same. The lights came off about 5 minutes later.
It's at the dealer today. It's probably a glitch in the DRL or a bad contact. The truck had to be modified to comply to Canadian laws (it's an American model) and I think that they might have done a mistake while rewiring the DRL.

We'll see...
That would explain it. And I bet they wired it to a feed coming from the emissions control as I suspected.

I have never noticed this happening, and I do alot of camping where my HL would be near us, and sometimes facing us. We definitely would have noticed something like this if it happened to us.
Also, noting that the vehicle was a US model imported into Canada, and that there was a DRL mod, would have been worth noting in your first post. Glad you found the source of the problem.

Bingo! I went to an other dealer today. They removed all the faulty wiring from the original dealer, reprogrammed the computer and the problem is solved!
