Infant Car Seat

Taking delivery of my first Highlander (2011, base V6) this weekend. I was wondering if there's a way to safely and securely place an infant car seat in the center middle row? I know the middle row is a 40/20/40 split but I'm wondering if you can use the child safety latch from each of the seats to latch in a car seat?

I forget what the manual says, but I didn't trust it. My son's travel system seats fits perfect behind the passenger seat so he's curbside.

Nope, I tried it before my son was born, the LATCH points are too far apart to hold it properly.

latch wont work in the middle. you need to use the seatbelt to lock it in place.

well, if you do it right. the seatbelt method is just as good. carseat in older cars without latches were all locked in by seatbelts.

i latch my kid behind the driver seat. it's the 2nd best location. i read it somewhere online

I was able to install this car seat in the middle facing backwards and now facing forward in my 2010 highlander using the two safety latches closes to the center. Now that the seat is facing forward, I thread the top harness through the center headrest and over to the driver side rear latch behind the rear seat. Everything seems secure to me. This car seat might be a little too big for a newborn though. Before having the highlander, we had the Chicco Keyfit in another vehicle. I haven't tried in the highlander but the locking latches on the booster portion might be a bit short to fit in the center. Using the center seat belt might be an option but I'd recommend only using the latches. You can really pull the straps tight and the booster will not move. I don't think you can get it as tight/secure using only the seat belts.
