Hi, I just purchased a 4wd HL w 43K miles Toyota Certified. Truck handles great and plenty of power. This will replace my 2000 ML55 as daily driver. i can tell you Im not really missing much power and handling from the ML55. It is a stardard HL but I plan to upgrade the sound system w Nav and eventually get 20's to replace the 17's
Questions
Should the dealer repair / replace items below since i just noticed them after I drove off the lot ? Sales guy is slow to response, getting the feeling they dont want ot replace these items. Do I call Toyota corporate customer service to handle this?
1. missing floor mats
2. missing cargo roll up covering - is this a standard item?
3. missing 1 wheel center cap.
4. missing 2nd set of keys and remote
5. Rear left seat will not slide.
6. Just ran recall query, seems like 3 recalled item was not performed.
Also.
Anyone running 20x9 or 9.5 all around in there HL? let me know what offset u can squeeze in. Dont want to run 22. I cant keep looking for pot hole to avoid.
IMO it would depend on the contract you signed when you bought your Highlander. I'd check it over with a fine tooth comb to see what it says about provided items/missing items, etc. If it says you need to check everything over before signing on the dotted line you're pretty much screwed. If not, the dealer should at least try to come to some accommodation with you if for nothing else good customer relations, but that's problematical for sure.

And, the words "Toyota Certified" mean nothing. Its a marketing/sales tool. Gotta love a 'certified vehicle' missing recalls. I flush my certified digested food every day.
What you see is what you get. That is something you should have taken care of when you test drove prior to buying vehicle.
You should check your state laws. Not much can be done about 'missing' since you bought the car with whatever is included. But, the seat that doesn't slide should be fixed and all recalls should be taken care off.
Run a title check. Maybe you can get the 2nd set of keys off the previous owner.
BTW:
7. missing bling rims
8. missing booming system
See how silly your wants and the word "missing" are when you buy something. If its not in writing, or specifically mentioned, you lose.
Since you're vehicle is 3 years old, I do recommend some PM that was most likely never done. Change your ATF, transfer case and rear-end gear oils, the antifreeze, and the air filter. I'd also have the oil/filter changed if there is no proof of the last change so that you have a starting point for maintenance.
Sometimes all you have to do is "return the vehicle" to see if they will bargain on the 'wants' that were missing. Again, know your state's consumer laws.

Why not check on this stuff BEFORE??!! Unless you have a signed We Owe from the dealer you're not getting a thing.
Wow.. I guess Certified means nothing for Toyota. I was accustomed to the service level of Certified Mercedes Benz. All problems are promptly taken care of. I thought I get a Toyota to get a little better MPG.
I'm really surprised since this dealership is in a affluent neighborhood in So Cal.
Just spoke to Toyota Customer Experience Center. in a Nustshell
* S O L on the mat.. up to dealer discretion.
* Seat - Selling dealer will repair without charge.
* recalls - can be performed at any recall servicing dealers.
This is the first time ever I have to buy floor mats from any of my previously owned cars. Hopefully dealer will come thru and I will have a smooth ownership from here on.
To be honest, I always buy new cars but base models at that, and I've never had floor mats included...they've always been a purchased option. I think since most people purchase them with their new cars, you're used to having them in the pre-owned cars you buy. At least that's my perspective.

A good dealership should take care of you from your listed item without any problem. The cargo cover might not be covered though.
recall can be done at any dealership without any $ from your pocket.

Agreed. For EVERY new car we've bought regardless of make, floor mats were ALWAYS an extra price listed on the window sticker. They do not come standard with the vehicles.

A true Toyota Certified vehicle is REQUIRED to have both sets of keys as well as have all recalls performed. If the dealer did not do it then they are on the hook with Toyota and are obligated to do it.
Salesperson slow to respond... Get his butt in gear and call the store manager.

got the seat fixed and missing wheel cap replaced.
still no mats. no keys. cost $50 for a key and $50 to get it reprogrammed. appearently it is a chipped key in need programming.
I think they will skip the reprogrammed fee if I can go back to the dealer on a certain day of the week.
I suspect the alignment is off. truck see to wonder a bit at hwy speed.
I really hate my selling dealer. They fixed the seat but now I realized all the covers that cover the seat mounting bolts are missing. it was there before i bought it in. They are 70miles away, otherwise I go there and complaint.
Finally purchased my own floor mats.
I dont ever want to go back there..... Hate that place..
Dont regret buying the HL but so regret getting it there.
I just bought a preowned 2008 on monday - it was a sport with 36000 miles. I did bump up the warranty to bumper to bumper because it had the dvd / backup cam etc.
However what the dealer did was give me a printout of the original order of the car and what options were ordered at that time. I made sure it had each and every one of the items.
You dealer may have been able to do the same. However since you have already taken posession you are pobably out of luck. I would however push for the second set of keys and fob - they definitely came with the car originally
