Suggestions for Addition to Roof Rail?

Guys/Gals,

Well it's only been two days with my new HL, and I'm already thinking of mods.

I'm getting the aluminum running boards installed on Saturday (negotiated these when I got the car over the weekend) which I'm really looking forward to.

I was thinking about adding some sort of roof rack onto the existing roof rails for that sporty look but am not sure what would be best. I don't want any huge ski racks or anything, or anything that is too high. I see the OEM cross bars online, but I wonder if they'd even be visible since they appear to sit so low.

Does anyone have any suggestions/pics? Maybe something simple by Yakima? Don't want to spend a fortune either. And also concerned about wind noise.

TIA

If you are sitting in the car it wont be visable but if you are walking by it is. I dont need crossbars since i can put down the middle seat and slide in 4 skis. Still room for 4 but if I was to buy one, I would get the OEM since it doesnt change the height. Working downtown DC, I need access to underground parking. So height is a concern.

I hadn't thought about the height issue and you're right...would have to be sure that it would be OK in my garage and also in my office parking garage....hmmmm.....

you can get Yakima cross bars and you need the yakima Railgrab. They will rise above the OEM Rails. They will cost slightly more than OEM crossbars.

I have them but I usually wouldnt put them on unless I need to haul skis. They tend to make additional wind noise. However I dont think you will hear it in a highlander.

I'll look them up online, thanks. Do you have any pics?

My only grip about the OEM crossbars is that they could have been maybe another inch higher off the roof line. Mounting things onto it can be very tight spaced. I have a Thule Atlantis box, whenever I mount the box I place a towel on the roof because the mounts sit right on the roof. I also use canoe racks and a snowboard rack and the bolts do sit on the roof.
