Power Outlets Not Working

Hi there,

This is my first post as I have just brought my first Highlander (OK Kluger but...).

It is a 2008 version, Grande and none of the power outlets work, not the one in the rear or the two in the front.

I have checked the fuses (in the engine and under the dash x2), tried different leads in to the power outlets (with the engine running) but all with no luck.

Am I missing something obvious?

I've searched the forum(s) but to no avail....

Thanks in advance,

Richard.

Did you turn on the switch on the left side of the dash?

The switch on the left side of the dash is for the AC outlet in the rear that comes with the factory DVD player. I believe Richard means the 12V outlets. If all of them are out it has to be a fuse.

^Sorry, thought he meant the power outlet.

He said he checked all the fuses though.

Will admit to limited knowledge of 2008's. But the wifes 2010 outlets are not hot all the time. The fuses for those outlets are fed by a relay that is actvated when the vehicle is turned on. So it may be a bad relay that is responsible for your problem. Unfortunately I do not have a diagram that reflects which relay it is or even where the relay is. Learned just enough about it to come up with a mod to make one of the outlets on her car hot all the time. Anyone out there have the answers?

On the 2010 (what I have), it looks like the 12v ACC relay is under the dashboard. There should be five along the bottom front edge and the ACC should be the center one. I don't know how the get to it though other than taking the dash panel off.

Thanks all for your input. I have solved it.

I agree that it most likely had to be the fuse so despite the fuses "looking" OK I today went and brought a pack of replacement fuses (my mulitmeter is still en-route in the container to Australia!).

The replacement fuses have fixed it. Strange that both had gone, but I guess the previous owner must have overloaded them somehow (ice box perhaps??)....

On an aside I installed the Grom Ipod unit - easy to fix and the sound quality is great.

Thanks all.

R.
