Hey guys, is this normal? When heat is on and the mode is on the lower level-feet only selection, I still get warm air from the upper vents. It is not full bore blasting but definite heat still flowing from AC vents on the dash board. Just wondering if it is my HL only or do you all get the same result?

A little air comes out the top, i mean a little.... id say 95% of it goes to the bottom

Thanks, did not know if that baffle door was on the fritz or if it should have been shut tight as a drum. I agree, about 5% still comes out the AC vents.

Same here, I get a bit of heat from the upper vents.

You guys all have problems then. If the setting is to floor, floor/defrost, or defrost, you should get ZERO air out the center face vents. In both my Tacoma and our '10 HL (just confirmed it yesterday with the fan on high), and all the previous Toyotas we've owned over the years, you get zero air out the face vents on those other settings. You should ONLY get air out the center two face vents on the face or face/floor settings.
Now you always (in all settings) get air out the side face vents. But that's why Toyota gives you an open/close lever on them. And the defrost vents at the windshield get air out it in all settings (even floor only) to keep the windshield from fogging up. You get less out the defrost if you set it to floor only, but some does still come out up there. And it increases when you switch to floor/defrost (which also then cycles the AC compressor on).

Tell you the truth, I've never owned a car that completely shut off air flow to the areas not designated. Even my Avalon sends some heat to the upper vents when the floor setting is selected. Just an observation.

Interesting. This is our 9th Toyota and not one ever sent any airflow through the center face vents unless they were selected. So if you set it to floor only, turn the heat up to hot, and the fan to high, you can feel air coming out your center face vents?

Yes, not a large volume but a distinct steady flow on both my Highlander and Avalon.
