Can I change headlights of 2010 HL to the 2011 type?
Hello All. I'm a noobie here and have a question. I have a 2010 Highlander which was bought in Oct 10 and am really in love with it. As the newer 2011 model came out the only thing I feel a 'buyer's remorse' about is the nice headlights. Sorry I'm not familiar with the technical terms but I think the newer headlights are high density ones?
Anyways, my question is Can I change the headlights on my 2010 model to fit the 2011 type? If so can it be done by the Toyota dealer or do I need to take it elsewhere? Will it void the warranty of any kind?

the 2011 highlander still has halogen bulbs, but they are inside a projector, instead of in a reflector like our 2008-2010's. The lights you are referring too are called High Intensity Discharge lights or xenon lights. They are those white/blue lights you see on lexus's and other luxury brands. What do u mean by get the 2011 ones to fit in a 2010, do you mean those HID lights or the projector headlights?

Thanks for the quick reply. You are right. I'm looking for the Lexus kinds lights. They are so sweet. To get them retrofitted, will it not need a new housing/casing etc? Thanks.

There are kits to put HID's in regular housings (reflector) that are sold online. I have done that to my car, i had ordered from ddmtuning.com but unfortunately they have stopped selling HID so i have no idea where to buy them now. the bulb is an H4, so you would want an H4 bi-xenon kit (bixenon means hibeam and lowbeam). There are users on this forum that say if you want to put HID's in our vehicles lights you must retrofit the lights with projectors so that you don't blind everyone on the road. Reflectors do tend to spray the light everywhere in to everyones eyes (especially fogs), though i think the highlanders headlights at least aim it pretty well (im retrofitting the fogs at the moment so it wont be as bad) here is what i mean by a retrofit. Acura TL Projectors Retrofit for 2009 Toyota Highlander
Someone else has done it to their highlander as well, but at the moment I can not find that thread. Obviously the Toyota dealership will not do this to your car.

When did ddm stop selling H.I.D kits? I just ordered them last week and got them at the beginning of this week.
i checked a few days ago and all hid kits were off their site... i just checked and now all the kits (digital and apexcone) are up. This is good news since i love their products.

I heard on another forum that the Feds were cracking down on companies selling the HID kits since they're all illegal in the US and that the number of suppliers was going to dwindle. But maybe it was just a temporary thing?

(i) Drop-in HID's (which will annoy the crap out of fellow motorists not to mention this is illegal in most states)
(ii) HID retrofit
(iii) Replace the fenders and headlights on the 2010 with the 2011 versions (maybe grille as well)
There is a guy on this forum who does (ii). You either need to supply a spare set of headlights, or send your headlights and he will retrofit HID projectors into your factory housing.
Good luck

if you want to go with the cheaper approach, you could get the custom projector housing headlights for the 08-10 model from ebay. These are not HIDs, but does give you the projector look.
Can the row of LED lights on top be disabled; I think they're the parking lights. Of the two, I actually like the black finished style, but the design is too busy, with the row of LED parking lights and angel eyes.
What's the quality like? Comparable or worse than stock?
I have bought Hella and Bosch head-lamps for my other cars and while the quality is top-notch, so is the price. I guess you get what you pay for

All lights have wires, so if you don't want to use them, just don't connect them.
I bought them for my RAV4, so I can't really compare to these, but based on my Rav4 experience, the halos are kinda yellow, and can't seem to change them easily. They also seem to have that annoying squirrel spotters. Not sure if these will have them or not.

Gotta say I'm not a fan of the new headlights ... I thought the car looked car and thought man I wish I had the latest and greatest model until I saw those lights. But each to their own.
