2011 Highlander Accessory Questions

Hi All -

Picked up a 2011 Highlander SE the other night. Ordered Weathertech floor mats (Iowa winters are messy!) I need some input on a couple of other accessories:

- Front Mask / Bra: Our last new car, over time, got all beat up from rock chips, etc. I'm thinking that a bra will help prevent that this time. Having a hard time locating much for the 2011's yet. Anyone have any experience with a particular brand / style?

- Door edge guards - are the $80 Toyota ones really worth it, or is the bulk stuff just as good?

- DVD players. I was too stingy to order the factory system. Using the system that replaces the headrests is tempting - but it also worries me. Anyone have a system that straps to the headrests that they like - one that fits relatively well?

- Pinstripe... anyone have a pic of a dark colored highlander with a light colored pinstripe?

Appreciate all the threads and topics I've read so far - great info, everyone!

Thanks in advance!

I was going to start a new thread, but this is as good as any to put this information. I get several emails a day on the same accessory items(I do appreciate it) so I thought I would just add the top '11 Highlander accessory questions to a post. I will add and edit as needed.

Hood Protector: PT427-48110 $84.00 w/$20.00 shipping
Hitch: PT228-48100 $350.00 $100.00 shipping "ESTIMATED"
Harness: PT219-48111-WH $154.00 included w/hitch; Seperately $11.50 "ESTIMATED"
COLOR KEYED DOOR EDGE GUARDS: PT936-48110-XX $65.80 shipping "ESTIMATED" $10.75
Chrome Exhaust tip: 00016-48935 $33.70 Shipping $10.00
MUDGUARDS: PT908-48110 $54.60 Shipping $11.75 "Estimated"
REAR BUMPER PROTETOR: 00016-48015 $38.70 Shipping $12.00 Estimated
Roof Cross Bars: PT611-48070 $140.00 shipping $10.00

I hope this gives all of you a general price with shipping for some of the common asked about accessories. I do carry these items in stock except the color keyed parts, they have to be ordered per color but only takes one day to get.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I would use a hood protector over a bra also. I had both on my previous suv and ended up selling the bra. If you want the protection of a bra without the hassle, you would be better off with the 3m paint protection film.

I would get the mud guards also. I did not get the door protectors as my kids are old enough now to know not to open the door into things. However, that is not the case with the people in the cars parked next to me so I installed the color matched body side moldings for my 2011 SE.

Looks like the makings of a reference sticky thread, Gary. What do you think? Shoot me a PM.

Mud guards and the body side moldings will be installed at the dealer this week... part of the purchase deal.

Hood protector is probably a good idea - thanks. The 3M film... anyone have experience with it? I assume that's not a do-it-yourself thing...

Trying to find a picture of the bumper guard - no luck. Anyone have a pic of one installed?

THANKS everyone!!

When I bought my 11 HL a week ago the saleman said the 3M film wasnt any good... it just covers a narrow portion of the hood... a bit bigger than a hood defelector. I think there're pics of bumper guards (front and rear) on ebay.

Best Options

The wife and I went with the Toyota Mud Guards, Body Side Moldings and Toyota (made by WeatherTech Rubber Cargo Mat. WeatherTech Floor mats. and the 3m Film. The 3m film is GREAT protection for the front end, we live in the desert and the Sand and rocks beat the crap out of the front end, Just having it on the Headlights and Bumper makes it well worth the price if you are going to keep the Vehicle for any time.

I had the dealer install the door guards - these are the metal crimp on style edge guards that match the car color. We think they're great. You really cant tell they're on unless you're up close to the car, and they're metal so they offer better protection than plastic stick ons.

Accessories

So far I have, clear (don't like the OEM since it is all black) bug shield from AVS, color keyed mud flaps (which I think is a must for blizzard pearl), wind visors, chrome exhaust tip, chrome bumper protector and cargo tote. I am guessing I will find some more stuff to add on later.

Same here. I have the clear AVS bug deflector. It looks good with my Sandy Beach Metallic Highlander.

I didn't go with the 3M film because if I remember correctly, the film is a pre-cut and it doesn't fit very well. I always go with a custom full hood, full fender, bumper and side mirrors. It wasn't cheap though.. >$2k. But the result looks much better because you cannot see any line going across the hood like those who did a partial coverage.

Where do you have the 3M film installed? Dealer? Any body shop?

I'm really just worried about the tall flat bumper we have... I can just see it getting beat up with rocks over time.
