Thanks to this wonderful forum we finally pulled the trigger and bought ourselves a 2011 Highlander Limited V6. We got it for flat 36K+TTL with everything except Navi+DVD (mud guards, wheellocks, crossbars, JBL, etc). Seemed a fair price and we wanted to have a close by dealer relationship if the difference was just a few hundred bucks. Just sharing my experience on this purchase to hopefuly help in anyway I can to give back.
I went with the overstock trick I picked-up from one of the threads here. I even went ahead and pressed the "button". Overstock quote initially came back around 35K. I went and pressed the "button" . Dealerships gave me a different price stating overstock is only for the "vanilla" trim with no options. So just a warning for those trying this route as well.
So I went to my closest Toyota dealership (not listed on overstock) armed with overstock numbers. They could only give me 37K as their "initial best price" with all the options I picked and would not go down further. Conversation was about to end and we where about to walk away then my wife asked about computing the monthly for such (which kept the conversation alive). This lead to the sales guys slipping and saying he can probably cut 200/300 bucks. After a few more talks got them to go 36K flat and boom we have a new SUV.
Guessing the price they quote if you don't tell how your paying (cash vs finance) will always be based on cash. I think that most dealers will also price higher for cash compared to finance as they get a part of the interest however small. So always say your financing while haggling even if you really wanted to pay cash I think.
We got our 2011 Limited with NAV, mudflaps and x-bars for $37000, no haggle through USAA pricing service (available to anyone) from Suburban Toyota, Troy, Michigan.
Think the price was right on the money. My 11 AWD Limited had a sticker price of $38.8K. Edmunds was just under $36K. But I am sure that included the $500 rebate.
Mine was a demo so I got them to knock off an additional $2K for 4,900 miles.
I was looking at Acura MDX, Mazda CX-9 and another Highlander from a competing dealer. They could of cared less about the Acura and Mazda. But, they didn't want to lose out to a fellow Toyota dealer.
Navigation, Blizzard Pearl Paint, V6 Tow Prep, Carpet/Cargo Mat ($315!!!!!!) and mudguards ($99)
I really didn't want Navi, but my wife had to have white/beige and it was proving very difficult to find any Limited trucks without navigation...
MSRP was $40,659.00, including $810 delivery charge.
sale price was $37077, plus $190 for doc fee, $24 for some electronic title fee...and 6% Michigan sales tax.
So $3,582 off MSRP. I was pretty happy, seemed like a very reasonable deal to me.
But there were others apparently getting better deals in other areas of the country.
Boch Toyota came in at another $1,500 cheaper! But they were too far to make it worth my while....New England...
they have crazy good deals, from what I saw in Edmunds Prices Paid forum.
No Michigan dealer would match...and that's fine...you gotta deal with what you have in your area...and I wasn't about to drive half way across the country to save $1,500.
Please post the name of the dealer and also post up a PDF copy of your sales agreement with your personal info blacked out. I'd LOVE to see that.
That's a 20% discount off MSRP....
So you are telling me I should have paid $33k for my $41k truck?
I'm having a very difficult time believing that, unless it was a demo, a closeout, a 2009 model you bought in 2010, etc...
Also, please give me the name of your salesperson.
I HAVE to know which Toyota dealer is selling brand new vehicles for 20% off MSRP.
A)I have nothing to prove.
B)I worked for Toyota corporate.
BTW I looked it up as I keep the window sticker, etc.
MSRP $40,057.00
Price before tax, extended warranty, reg fees $33,479.00
$7028 off MSRP =P
You're right, closer to 17%-18% off MSRP
BTW it was brand new, custom ordered from Japan and took 6 months to come over. I wanted NAV without having to have climate control for the rear passengers. Were most people have manual or digital buttons I have vents in the back. My only regret was not getting the rear power door which my wife wanted.

fair enough I'm sorry I doubted you.
But you made it sound like you just walked into a dealer and negotiated that. You probably had some kind of corporate discount since you were working for toyota.
I can get employee pricing on Nissan/Infiniti because my brother in law is an engineer and we get 5% below dealer cost on VPP, same as he gets.
Of course no "regular" person can touch that deal.
Liked the Murano a lot but it was just much smaller (passenger and cargo area) then the Highlander....plus its rear seats don't slide/recline, and it doesn't have a 3rd row....

Yes, please say so if you did get employee discount for your pricing. If you didn't, then I think we are not doing good enough
and please share some tip on how to get to though price

I would have not buy a car if I can't get it for that price LOL
