USA wiring lighted running boards 2011 highlander

Hello all,
I bought 2011 Hybrid limited Highlander end of december. I purchased lighted running boards from eBay which I installed yesterday on driver side at least. But I am not sure how to wire lights to highlander. No clue where to start, searched all over internet but no specific instructions. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the running board installation links located in the Modifications & Maintenance sticky at the top of the Highlander forum page.

BTW, to the nation!

I looked in that section but was not able to see anything specific to lights. I already installed running boards just need to wire lights.

I'd imagine you want to wire them into the interior lights circuits (so that they come on when you unlock the car or open the door), though unfortunately i don't know where you can tap into that circuit. Hopefully someone can help.

Like sweeny said with the interior light cicuit, I would try to take out the dome light, use a multimeter to check for 12 volts when the door is opened then hook up a wire and fish it down from the domelight to the underdash area. Look for somewhere in the firewall where you could run the wire through and hook it up to the sidestep light. Find a good ground and run it also to the sidestep light. I'm assuming theres only 2 wires for the sidesteps. If theres not enough voltage at the dome light you might need to wire up some sort of relay. If if seems too involved for you just bring it to a shop, I don't see them charging you more than an hours worth of labor for it.

Okay, sorry about that. I thought there was additional replies in one of those threads regarding light installation as well...it was worth a shot. BTW, if you happen to take any photos or put together a DIY for the lights I'd be happy to link it with the other running board install threads in the DIY sticky.

Puddle Light?

Does your Limited have a Puddle light on your side mirror? If it does you want to wire the light of your running to the puddle light wires.
Note: If you take of the cover from the upper door area (small triangle shape) you should see 5 wire for the power side mirror and 2 extra for the puddle light.

Good luck with running the wires there.....
