I went to Carmax toyota, i got quoted $35,000 for limited without navi, just only JBL and towing package.
Any thoughts? I think it is kinda over priced...
A local dealer quoted me for $34,500 for the same, do you think I can bargain with them down to $33k - 33.5k?
An excellent tactic is to contact as many dealers as you can via fax or e-mail, provide them with your idea of a purchase price based on dealer cost, and then let them make offers knowing other dealers are in contact with you. A bidding war is a nice way to see that price drop.

Any help or advice would be great.
I doubt that you can get it down to 33k unless you have some employee discount.
I think invoice price for the 2011 Limited with towing and JBL is right around the 35K mark. I dont think I've heard of anyone on the forums who got a 2011 limited for $33k (please let me know if i'm wrong).
We did ours through costco pricing and the deal between costco and the dealer we went to was tag on $200 on top of invoice price. It came out to 35,500.00 before all the fees which included JBL, tow prep & cross bars.

This must be for the awd. Why dont you go with fwd. Awd is overkill for DC IMO.
What are you basing this idea of overpriced on? If you want I can get you the specs and tell you exactly what invoice is if you let me know the MSRP.
Steve
Invoice would be great, it just a standard AWD 2011 NEW HL Limited, with JBL and towing package.

Ok I will check that out.
FYI, The limited HL I'm looking for is without navigation...
Sad news, most of the quotes I got from the dealer, the cars been sold. Others dealer checked the toyota inventory and saw them it is sold and it will be hard for me to price matched them... Showing other dealers quote is out of the question.. Any other advice? I guess I gotta play hard-ball with them now. And the scared about halt production in Japan does not even help.

The problem in Japan is not an issue as far as production goes because most of the 2011 highlanders for our market are built/assembled in the US. The affected Japanese plants were producing Yaris, Scions, and lexus hybrid.
The problem in Japan raises a different concern: parts.
That is true that production isn't build/assembled in Japan, but there are buyers out there that does not know that. I did go to one dealership and the saleperson used that tactic on me and told me to buy one cause there not much HL in production left. I thought that was BS but others might not know about it and buy it on the spot especially with 0% apr for 60 months.
Not sure. Unless the financing has changed drastically, it was 1.9% for 60 months for the highlander, the financing varies between 0-1.9% depending on the models.

Any other tactic I can use against the dealer?
Seems like you first need to find a dealer that has HLs in stock or at least the one you like. Where are you in DC? Alexandria Toyota and Koons toyota and Darcars Toyota usually have plenty in their stock. I got my solara from darcars with a great discount and my HL from koons arlington toyota with a great discount. I take my car to alexandria toyota for service. So I like those three. Check their websites to see if they have the one you like. Then print the price quote from American express zag network and take it to them. 2 weeks ago I've negotiated a honda accord EX from 27,5K to 20,3K + 0.9% for 5 years for my friend using the print out from American express. The price they gave us before showing that was $24,5K
sometimes its better to get what you want even if it means paying a few hundreds $ more. You try to get rock bottom price only if you have time and willing to wait.
Try to work with the dealer and see if they can order one for you and see how long will it take. good luck
