Hi, just want to get a feedback on whether it is worth the cost to get the 30k mile schedule maintenance at the Toyota Dealership for $350+. Are all you proud Toyota HL owners getting this service done?
My 2008 Highlander is coming up to that 30k landmark & I am undecided if I should get it done or not? Any comment is welcome. Thanks!!

Don't get the recommended 30k by your dealer. Ask them to do the items only listed in your service book. It shouldn't be that expensive. But defintely get it done.
Based on the service schedule I made for our 2009 HL AWD there is nothing you really need to do at 30k that couldn't wait until 45k unless you tow a lot.
Every 5k oil change and rotate tires (I balance as well)
Every 10k-15k check alignment, change engine air filter, change cabin air filter
Every 45k all fluids in the car (trans/brake/coolant/power steering/etc)
Every 90k tune up, thermostat, water pump
I guarantee a lot of the dealer 30k is just checking this and that and not a lot of doing. An oil change runs me $20, rotate and balance $20, check alignment $50 (I have an unlimited 5 year but if I was paying), engine air filter $20, cabin air filter $20. Less than $150 total.
I agree with JMSinMD, change air filter/cabin filter are fairly easy (dealerships charge an arm and a leg) and you can definitely do that yourself. I change:
All fluids at 50k
Check/do my alignment at 30k
Oil change @ 5k (MobileOne Syn oil w/ Purolator PureOne filter) w/ tire rotation.

Agree.
If the Toyota procedure is the only way to change the plugs it is a pricey deal
The whole top of the engine has to come off to get to the back 3 plugs

350 is nothing. A BMW or Mercedes is more than double that. It's all relative.
Thats true but still, toyota recommended service is different then what your toyota dealer/service recommends. To make more money they put a lot of uneccessary stuff in there. I remember when I took my 05 solara for 30k, they said it would be $350+ so I told them to only do the items on the service book, I ended up paying something around $150.

"It's all relative" isn't an excuse or reason for getting ripped off. People that drive MB or BMW have already shown their intelligence (or lack thereof) and therefore are easy targets by the dealerships who want to help them 'protect their darling vehicles.'
