I think it's supposed to that probably for security reasons. It's annoying and I don't know a way to change it.

Just like Denis Leary would say: I got two words for you - You Cant.
Idiots at Toyota decided that if you remote start your car from say . . . 80 feet, someone would open your car and drive away with it. Yes, they dont have the key and they will drive away. Even worse in my case, I have a keyless forb. So the person with forb can only open the door within 6 feet of the car, if I accidentally open the door . . . 80 feet away, someone jumps in the car, they cant go that far. THERE IS NO KEY ON THE CAR. The car stops working a few feet. IDIOTS.
The OEM remote start is a scam, just like the NAVi system cant work while you are driving. Every other f'ing GPS system works while driving, but Toyota says that you are too much of an idiot to do it. So at every red light you have less than 2 minutes to enter an address or dial someone's number, or feel the wrath of 15 vehicles behind you.

Well, I'll refrain from using your own words against you, but the car does not "stop working in a few feet". Once running, it will run until the start/stop button is pressed again. Regardless of whether or not the key is present. RTFOM please.
