I have got 2011 highlander limited with smart key system, just wondering how to unlock all doors when i open driver's door..would appreciate your thoughts.
This is a setting that can be changed at the dealership. Check out page 582 in your 2011 owner's manual, it will give you all the details.
Partially true.
the fob buttons have to be changed by the dealer
The SmartKey touch the door handle to open the doors can be changed by doing the following (page 37-38 in the 08 HL manual):
With the engine off push and hold the unlock button and the lock button together for about 5 seconds.
The setting changes each time you do this.
If the Smartkey system is set to the default open only one door when you do this procedure it will change the Smartkey system to open all doors. If you want it to go back to the open only one door just do the procedure again.

The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to summerwind For This Useful Post:
That would be a bummer if it doesn't work.
One of the bitches with Toyota is you have to have the dealer (which the majority of the time wants to charge you) change custom settings.
I had the headlight delay changed turned to 0, but left the fob buttons the same as I could change the Smartkey system myself and have the best of both worlds.
SOOO.....
Let us know if the 08 procedure still works on the 11's or The Toyota nanny has taken one more control away from owners.

Following Summerwind's suggestion, I changed my 2010 Venza with a smart key to unlock all doors versus just the driver door.
At the first service interval a few months ago I asked the service writer at the dealer to change the unlock function from one door to all doors. The service guys (at least the ones at the greeting desk) either did not know how or just too lazy to seek help. Now I'm happy and I know how to change it as I wish in the future.
Thanks Summerwind!

Reason: addition
So I probably should go back to where I bought my Highlander. I haven't been back since floormat recall and my Highlander is now 2 years old. I still have a coupon for a free oil change I was planning on not using as dealer ship is 35 miles from my home.
Thanks,
Dennis

I am going back to the dealer soon. I want my lights and dome lights to turn off with no delay. I wonder how much they will charge?
Headlight delay off is no problem
Don't believe you can turn the dome lights delay off. In 2008, 7.5 seconds seems to be the shortest delay. 15 sec is the default. Starting the HL accelerates the process.
Quote:
Changes the lighting time of the personal light, interior lights and ignition key cylinder light*1/engine switch illumination*2
after closing all of the doors. (It will quickly fade out when the ignition switch is turned on (IG)) 7.5 s / 15 s / 30 s
As to the point in another post about service advisers....
I would quess the majority go through their Toyota service adviser career without any customer asking about changing customizable settings. When I bought my HL the dealer I bought it from wanted to keep it for a day to figure out how to do it. I declined and went to another dealer's service department and was told to stick around for 30 minutes and they would make the change a no charge. You can guess which dealership has my service business.
