Just getting to know the new highlander... one thing that my wife noticed is that it looks like the doors will not lock while one of the doors is open. All you get is a long (20 seconds?) beep to let you know that you tried and failed.
In the manual it doesn't look like this is configurable - is that correct? Anyone know of a way to override?
The main reason that we like the feature on our other car is because we like to open the rear door, hit the lock button on the remote key entry fob, put the keys away, and then start getting the kid out of the carseat. With this feature that means we have to keep the keys out until all the doors are locked and then hit the lock button.
Obviously if this is the only annoyance that I find we're going to be pretty happy owners!

to TN. I assume that you do not have the Limited? My Limited (and likely the Hybrid Limited) has the push button lock on the door handle. All I do is push that...no keys to fumble for. One great thing about the Limited is that you never have to take your keys out of your pockets, with the pushbutton start and auto-unlock door handles. I can tell you from experience that these options sure come in handy with a child.

I bought a 2009 Camry as my first Toyota and it was an adjustment for me also. I haven't found a way to overide it on the Camry and would love to know if you can. I have had to do what Dman says and lock the door with the switch on the door. It is a pita if you are used to doing it as you describe

Just to clarify, the button I use is the one on the outside of the Highlander, on the door handle. Once all of the doors are closed, I just push that button.

Ya, I have the SE, not the limited, so I don't have that option...
Thanks for the quick responses - like I said, not a huge disappointment, just making sure that I wasn't missing an easy workaround...

The Fob won't let me lock the doors when one is still open but I can do it using my remote starter. I guess there is a way to program the Fob but probably through the dealership. I rarely use the Fob because I have the remote starter but I still carry the Fob in case I have to use the panic button.
