Traded my Stock Tires with only 20 miles on them

I never thought about swapping out stock tires on a new car until I bought a Outback a couple years ago and found others in the Subaru forums complaining about the stock tires. With that car I waited about 800 miles before doing so - with the new Highlander the first stop I made was at my local tire store.

My tire guy recommended the Goodyear Fortera (I think they are the HL) and gave me 70 bucks a tire for the Toyo's (they had all of 60 miles on them). Drove out of there with new tires filled with nitro for about $270 or so.

I don't know much about tires, but when he swapped out my Outback tires for Goodyear ComfortTread I noticed a huge difference that winter (Fargo, North Dakota).

I won't have anything to compare to this year, but I'm assuming the Fortera's should be a step up next winter...

Good choice, the stock tires are garbage and down right dangerous for anyone facing any type of inclement weather. I had Bridgestone prorate mine 100% toward another set of BS which I've been 100% happy with.

They sell people an "AWD" vehicle that you think would be capable but you find out too late the tires handicap any capability it would have had.

You are a wise man. Sounds like $270 very well spent. Enjoy your highlander the way it was meant to be.

Hrm, our CPO 08 has new H/L 400s that were installed by the dealer. We just got it and they seem ok so far. Do they tend to suck in the snow and the rain or just snow?

The Toyo's were probably half worn by the time you got to the tire shop

I had Fortera's on my Grand Cherokee and they're great tires, I would never get anything other than Michelin, Bridgestone or Goodyear tires, although my rental car came with a set of Kelly Navigator Gold Touring tires and they were awesome!

Rain you'll be ok with, snow....better pray for some warm WI winters......
They are dangerous in snow/ice.
