Valet key

I picked up my 2011 Highlander today (Canadian base AWD) and have a question about the valet key.
I think that there is a chip inside the regular key (imbeded in the plastic) that allows it to perform its normal functions. Is there a chip in the valet key as well? If.. I remove the plastic would I end up with a key that would "only" open the door?
If so I would like to do this and "hide" the key someplace where I could get to it in the event I locked my keys inside.

You might talk with your dealer's service department to see if they offer a key without the chip or get an extra one and don't have it registered to your HL.

The key will not start the car if it has not been registered in the system by the dealer

An after thought.....If you will never use the Valet key as a Valet key just have the dealer unregister it from the HL

Get your valet key copied at somewhere like Walmart. You can't start the car, but you can at least open the door.

Or cut a metal key, dealer here sells $4.00 cut from code

Did anyone else get one of the plastic credit card keys from Toyota? I received my blank but have not been by the dealer to have it cut.
