Radio display gone

5500 miles today, never tried the "MODE" button on steering wheel for radio control. Tried it today and the radio display went out. Radio works, CD works, plays fine AM/FM and CD. Went by the dealer to ask what gives?

They took a look see and 30 minutes later they said, "ordering you a new radio."

Maybe just one of those things. Looks like bad circuit board I imagine.

mine failed at about 30000km. the new one was put on order by the dealer and finally arrived after 3 months. I am going to have that replaced next week but I am not optimistic that the next one will last anylonger before it fails.

I am alreday prepared to see scratches on the dash after the install.

Take a high res picture of the dash before dropping it off.

Ugh, hope you guys are wrong about the scratches. I will take a photo as you suggest.
I thought maybe I was the only one that had this display failure. Of course you guys may be talking about complete radio or CD fail. Mine works just great though I can't see squat on the display. Oh, the back light comes on, all digits are 100% missing.

I had the same problem with my 09 JBL non Navi.
Dealer replaced it under warranty but left a tiny scratch as well.
It didn't catch my eye until much later...
Good luck to you!

The high res pic is a great idea. When the dealer changed my evaporator last year, they used some tool to pry the console trim around my radio, vents etc. and damaged the edge of the trim and the dash. They paid a guy that does dash repairs, and they fixed it all, and can only notice if you know where to look, and look close. That said, still would have preferred not to have gone thru that trouble.

Another suggestion, take pics of the rest of your front interior. I found fine scratches on the silver trim (mine is a sport) just in front of the console storage which i know I did not put there. It must have been done during repairs, but I noticed to late to complain to the dealer.

Also, make sure you have good daylight when you inspect the dash.

Cheers.

Radio Update.

Great experience at Toyota of Newnan. Radio came in the next day but I had to delay my go-back for a week. I could not imagine it would have arrived in 24 hours seeing someone had to wait 3 months.
Went in at 10AM and out by 11AM. That was it, 1-hour, no issues, no dash damage or scratches. Kudos to the dealer today, good job!

Yep, we randomly had garbled display one hot day. Then it started working fine, however the dealer still replaced it under warranty. There are a few threads on this, Camry's also had similar issues.
