Tires for base 17" Highlander

Hello All,

Man oh man this has become confusing. On my old cars I would simply buy Michelin tires and knew I was good. However, that has changed and is like buying an LCD tv... PQ varies by model with in the manufacturer. Anyway, I was hoping that Hankook had the H727 in my size for the Highlander. I just bought these in the 17" size for my wife's Freestyle AWD and these tires are incredible! They are super quiet and are great in the rain.

Is there something similar for the Highlander? This is the order of importance:
1) Quiet at highway speeds.
2) Great in rain
3) Great in snow

Please let me know... thanks

You would be hard pressed to find a better tire than the Michelin LTX M&S or newer M&S2. I've had these on a Ford Explorer and my recent '01 Highlander. Easily got 70K miles out of them. Quiet and good in the snow and rain. I just bought my '11 SE in March and before winter gets here my vehicle will be wearing a set of the Michelins and these factory Toyo "rubber donuts" will go on Craig's List.

You should also use Tirerack.com or Discounttiredirect.com and assess the tires they have available for your Highlander. They provide both professional assessments and customer reviews for each tire, and that will help you gauge the requirements you have. Food for thought.

You can use the tire rack survey results and push the emphasis on the traits you want:

Does anyone have the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza on their Highlander? My research is pointing me there (and at a couple of Michelins but I've had bad experiences with them so no more for me). We rarely have snow or ice here so that isn't an issue. The Duelers on my 4runner were fine.

I have checked all those sites but tires today are not "cut and dry" anymore. It is by specific model, type and sometimes build date. So many items anymore are subbed out it is hard to sift through what is usually good with what looks good but is bad.

Yes, hands down the finest all around tire I've ever owned. Better than Michelin, Pirelli, Yokohama, etc, etc.

I had Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza on my Honda Pilot. They hold the road well, got loud at 30k and lasted about 40K. I was happy with them until I replaced them with Michelin Latitude Tours and they were much better. They were much quiter, lasted longer and held the road about as well. The only negative I could say about the Michelins was they would thump when you hit freeway devider strips.

After running the Michelin LTX AT2 on my Tacoma, I'll be putting these on our HL before next winter. Amazingly quiet, good dry/wet traction, and are awesome in the snow (which is where we need to focus our tire choice the most). When you're traveling up hills in 2-feet deep snow that has been driven over by a lot of vehicles (it ain't fresh powder!), that's when you determine which tires work the best. I've got 20K miles on them now and they've only worn 2/32nds. So I expect that the price/mile of use will be really low compared to most other tires (especially when needing an AT tire for the snow).

I agree! I had two sets of Michelin LTX AT on a Ford Explorer I used to have. Excellent tires. When I bought the '01 HL I decided to go with something a tad less aggressive and chose the LTX M&S and am equally happy. I don't do as much off roading with the HL as I did with the Explorer so the M&S are fine.
