Towing Question

Hi everyone, I own a 2008 Highlander Limited 2 WD, 6 cylinder engine. It's NOT the hybrid model. Also, I own a 2002 Toyota Sienna. Would like to ask anyone here on this awesome forum if my Highlander can tow the Sienna cross country? it would be from Florida to California, 2,700 miles. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I highly doubt it. Looking quickly at the Toyota website, the new Sienna's weigh over 4000lbs (you would need to find out how much yours weighs). The 6 cylinder Highlander with the tow package (does yours have this?), I believe, has a maximum towing capacity of 5000lbs. Add to the weight of the Sienna the weight of the trailer it will be on, which would likely weight 1000-2000lbs.

Do you have a friend or wife (or whomever) who could drive the second vehicle? That would make more sense.

that front wheel drive dolly from uhaul can only hold a vehicle that is 3400 lb and 72" wide and the 02 sienna is around 73ish (according to internet) and 4000lb so that wouldn't work.

The u-haul auto transport weighs a little over 2000lb, so that puts the total weight at around 6000lb, which is way above the tow rating of 5000lb (if u have towing package). So unless you have a full size auto transport trailer which weighs less than 1000lb that won't work either.

The highlander just wasn't built like a pickup truck to tow large loads (ie a full size minivan), so I think u'd be better off finding another driver to drive the minivan.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. I guess I'll be better off just having someone drive it for me if I decide to make the move.

My $0.02 is to get the full-size car trailer and hook it up to the U-haul itself. Those trucks would have no issue pulling the minivan.
