Aibag Recall Early '08s Update

When my wife's airbag warning light came on in her '08 base model, the first thing I did was come to the Toyotanation Forums and did a search.

Under the heading "Another Recall" in the Forums, Summerwind had an excellent post and heads-up about the '08 recall. If you have an '08, put your VIN into the searchable recall window at Toyota's site and see if your vehicle is included.

Called a Toyota service advisor at a larger local dealership to ask about the status of the recall since we had not received official notification from Toyota yet. He said he was aware of the same issue with '07 RAV4s, but had not yet heard about the Highlander airbag recall issue.

After poking around his computer, he found the information from Toyota about the '08 Highlander airbag recall. He said that while Toyota is still officially developing a fix/resoponse for the safety recall issue, dealers can take vehicels in and scan for codes. If the proper codes appear, they can proceed to fix the airbag issue. He told me the official code/title for the recall is "BOE Recall."

I second getting the code checked.

Back in July of 09 I had light coming on.
The code was B1000 Airbag ECU Malfunction
The Service department would not allow me to take it off the lot until they fixed it. Gave me a loaner for the two days it took to make the repair (order part then install it)

They replaced a sensor assy 89170-48240 which required removing the center console to get at it.

Will be interesting to find out if the latest recall is for the same part.
