2011 highlander door edge guards

There is probably an answer to this somewhere on the forum, but i've not been able to find it. I just picked up a 2011 highlander limited (sizzling crimson mica) and purchased the Toyota OEM color matched door edge guards online. Everything I read says they're just compression type fittings, but I'm reluctant to push to hard for fear of scratching the factory paint on the door. Has anyone out there put these on? Do they just push on, require a little tap with a rubber mallet, or is there some type of lubrication i should put on first. thks

I tapped with a rubber mallet. Sometimes more than tapped while 'guiding' with more force than I liked. But they are on and I have no doubt that they will stay on. If you look very close you can see a couple small scuff marks from when I had to smack it. I don't think that lube would help.

I know this isn't the subject of this thread but I never understood what value the door edge guards offered. There is no way to put them on without damaging the paint/finish to some degree. If after a few years you have to remove them you will see what I mean. But most importantly, they seem to only protect the other guys car from me opening my door into it. Which, has never been a problem for me. My problem has always been someone else opening their door into MY car for which the edge guards do nothing.

Try putting a little liquid soap and water in the guard channel. That might help them slip on easier.

Use rubbing alcohol as a lubricant. Works slick as snot, but dries quickly with no residue.

fwiw, he dealership that put them on for me (the metal ones) said they heated the up which made them more pliable. They used a work rag and rubber mallet to install them (ap the rag not the metal).

You could call a clear bra installer and have him put strips on the edge of the door. I have this on mine. Can't even tell they are there.
