Power windows/sunroof continue to work after ignition is off

I just figured out today, only as a fluke, that the power windows and sunroof have power and are operational even after you turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key. However, once you open the driver's door (not sure about the others), game over...you need to turn the ignition to ON in order to power them.

Soooooooo many times, I have stopped the car and turned off the ignition only to realize that a window/sunroof was open. And what did I do every time? Insert the key and turn the ignition to ON again to close it, when all I could have done, is simply close the window!! Worse, it's probably in the manual!!

Official Bonehead Award goes to............................me!!

Yes. I believe that it lasts for 30 seconds.

And Luck123, yes, it is in the manual. When I first got my HL I actually had time to do things like read the manual...every page except for the sections on the DVD player and the Navigation system, since I don't have those. Now, with a five and a half year old running me ragged every minute that he is awake, it would take me years to read through the manual.

Works on all Toyotas too (at least every model we've owned). Been this way for at least a decade! If you're sitting in your vehicle for that 30 seconds, you'll hear a click when it disables that feature. And if you own a model that has a lighted window switch on the driver's door, it stays lit until that 30 seconds is up (or you open a door). If you still need to adjust a window after it clicks off, turn the key to on and back off again and your 30 seconds begins again. This is like Toyota's automatic re-lock feature. That's another one I like.
