was this a good deal?

First of all , I would like to state that I'm a young parent at the age of 22 and my fiance is 21. Her father wanted to buy her a suv since we are from the east coast with a lot of snow in the winter. He end up getting her a baby blue 2008 highlander base model for 26k with 8k on it and my question is is 26k too much for a base model with 8k on it because i felt like we got rip. I didn't went to the dealership with them i pretty much have no word because it aint my money nor father lol.

26k sounds a bit too high for me for a used base model. If memory serves me right, they used to retail for about $28-29k for a new AWD base.

Accept the nearly new HL with grace and thank your FIL for his generous act. His heart is in the right place and you should appreciate his love.

For add-on GPS I like Garmin units with perhaps the 5" screen. Some models have lifetime updates and traffic info. If you need blue tooth, some Garmin units offer a workable BT capability. For a backup camera, you might check into autodimming rear view mirrors which have rear view camera capability.

The ultimate solution for both nav and backup camera is to consider a Kenwood navigation head unit. The Kenwood units include Garmin embedded GPS and you can get a backup camera to integrate with the screen on the head unit, blue tooth, satellite radio, etc. More money but better integration.

That does sound high... I got my new base 2011 AWD V6 Highlander with Tech Package, Cross Bars, Mats, Cold Weather Package and Tow Prep for $30.8K - could have gotten one with no Tech Package for about $29K (New!)

I agree with Jim Griffin... be happy for the gift... don't let the price take away from your appreciation of her family as it will be your family as well sooon!

YES, it's high but don't feel bad. That's what old man does.

My in law, same thing. He saved his money but always get ripped.
WHY? They still have the mind set about the "old day", "back then". My in law just spent $800 to "upgrade" the home alarm system (which you know most of us can probably get it for FREE) but somehow sale guys know how to talk him into it.

Got a 99 Cadilac from a private sale (on newspaper) without checking the market price, history... guess what? Overpaid!!!

This things happened all the time and even those it's not my $$ but you still feel like man, can't you be smarter? The answer is NO. He still think he knows better than I do.
