Fair price for a dealer demo model?

What is a fair price for a dealer demo Highlander? I was quoted $29.8k for a new 2011 Highlander FWD V6 with tech package and a few other options, which is what I was looking for. MSRP is $33.4k. Turns out they have this model on the lot as a demo with 9k miles. I drove it for a while without the salesman and it seems to be in great condition. We didn't talk price - I am a little leery of a demo - but what would be a fair discount below the new car price?

Let me clarify - $29.8k is the price for the NEW one, which they offered to get me but they don't have on the lot right now. I am wondering how much of a discount off that price they should do for the used/demo one with 9k that they do have in stock.

AHA!

I thought that was the price they were quoting you for the demo. What the heck... see what they will do on the demo. It should be sold at a substantial savings over the "new" one.

Price out a used one on edmunds or kbb with the same mileage. That should be the same price. No matter what they say, it is used.

Can you get reduced financing on the Demo?

In 2009 when I was in the market, I could get a base V6 AWD with that price. Don't look at MSRP. Go to truecar.com and see what people are paying for the specific model in your area. For a Demo car....personally I would stay away unless I get $5k+ off the avg people are paying for a low mile new car. It's not worth saving 1 or 2k off a demo because you would never know how much abuse it has taken. Problem from the abuse won't show symptom until tens of thousand miles later. Especially saving 1 or 2 thousand dollar doesn't make a big difference in your month payment.

After talking to the dealer, I think they were only coming down $1k from that price, maybe $1.5k if I pushed hard. I might've been interested if the discount were more like $3-4k but I didn't see that happening, so will stick with new.
