JBL non-navi to NAVI Conversion & Upgrade

This thread is to help you guys find the pins and ease your installation time of the HEADACHE on the JBL system; assuming that you have some knowledge of basic terms such as (12v+), Accs +, (ground - ), Remote out, power antenna, Illumination+, Reverse12v, speed signal , ect; and at least know how to remove a door panel, remove plastic door sills to run the cables underneath , and install a basic system amp, etc ...

"Attn: dont try these Pinouts on the NON-jbl systems, since harness is totally different.".

After using OEM JBL factory sound system almost a yr. noticed sound dont go after vol. 40+ and just gets more distorted. fed up of sucky sound,.. So., decided to upgrade: Parts needed :
1) YOUR CHOICE OF GPS RADIO. (Pioneer, kenwood, alpine, jvc) . etc
2) METRA 99-8222 SINGLE/DOUBLE DIN DASH KIT RADIO INSTALL if your dash is black . (or u can use the scosche one) your preference.
3) Toyota PREMIUM AMP Stereo Radio Wire Harness 2000-2011 from ebay about $13 bucks... (DO NOT GET THE metra 70-1761 since that's for non-jbl radios,, I learned the hard way).
* Another Option is to buy the $90 dollar Jbl Harness Kit for Highlander, use this harness ONLY if you are not using an external voice amp. Therefore you need this kit to send signal to jbl amp then to speakers.

4) JVC Video Bypass Automatic KW-NT30HD from ebay.. Actually just write down on ebay the model number of your radio + video bypass override. (needed if you want to play dvd's on the go, and serve as a parking brake lead to radio..) Its just a 12v relay taped up with 3 wires.... I paid $8 bucks for mine.
5) Axxess Metra ASWC OEM Steering Wheel Control Adapter If you wish to keep your steering volume + track+/- working as factory... $41 bucks
6) Your Preference Speakers rear 6 1/2, front 6x9's
7) Your preference 4ch. Voice AMP, or 5ch if you installing an small rear sub.
OPTIONAL
8) Bass Amp if u want Real Bass .. 9) EQ for sound precision....

Hope you have RCA cables , some speaker cable, tape , pliers, screwdrivers, flatheads, soldering kit (opt), tools......

I started with front doors .. remove cover then bolt behind latch opener.. .. take cover off the door handle, then 2 bolts there. pry out carefully, and see if im missing any other bolt,lol........Throw NEW cables where u placing your Voice amp, (if you are) . thru the boots.. Pain in ss..

Front Door Garbage Jbl Speakers

rear door comparison

Monster Cable speakers Door Wiring to the Amps THRU BOOTS

Rear Doors Finished with Components on the Door:

Bass Amp under rear driver seat

Little Tight Bass :

Prep your Harness before Soldering :

Ebay harness Prepped: "noticed I removed the rca's since im not using jbl oem amp anymore..

Build Your n connect 3 Harness + relay,.. Very Important.. Make sure you Layout, solder, use shrink tube , tape , etc

Unassamble Radio Following Metra Instructions:

Remove JBL radio and Identify plugs

Locate Plug A from Main Harness.. Here You'll find constant 12v, accs +, Illumination, Power antenna, and ground..

Let's Connect the Metra Steering Wheel (ASWC axxess) to PLUG B of the MAIN Harness..

TAP , cut or peel off the Speed Signal and route a cable to connect to Aftermarket Radio Harness

TAP Reverse+12v and connect to Gps Radio Harness.. Use some rca's from the premium harness u removed to tap to the oem rear camera to radio... TAP into CLOCK display Harness as follows... This Pic from another thread

Little Addon..

Throw RCA's to it , and/or AMPs if you not using one

AnY step you move foward on the installation ...STOP n TEST...
Do not put covers back on until all tests has been done... Example, with radio assembly dissambled,. test your harness and test your radio, connect rca's , see if get signal, etc... Step by step....

Once all test done.. then ready for sound Adjustments.. amps to 75%, EQ to flats first, etc..

Testing Rear Cam

Testing Metra Axxess Volume control.. ok

Can I now feel a SOUND DIFFERENC ?
Crispy and Beautiful as the Stage..

Finished Product

Hi, Keep up the good work. At one point of time, I was going thru' this route but lost interest because I did not like the look after Metra kit instal.

I also looked at indash Nav systems but did not know whether to believe the quality or not

Recently, Alpine has introduced in dask kits for sienna, I hope they for Higlander as well.

Chekc this thread for alpine indash on sienna

New Alpine In-Dash Kit for Sienna 2011

Finally , I have nothing

I love the unit too.. Was undecided between the Pioneer AVIC-X930BT or this one.. But The JVC has exceptional sound quality 2.5volts of rca pre-outs + Built in HD Radio + FULL Detachable Face...

PS>>> I still find myself unconsciously looking for the volume control while driving.. LOL....
