Brand New Highlander with AC Issues

I bought a 2011 Highlander SE last Tuesday and as I was driving it home from the dealer, I noticed that the AC wasn't very cold, even on Max AC.

I thought it was because the system was running hard during the test drive and it was a very hot day. My wife drove it a couple times after that and noticed the same thing.

I dropped it off at the dealer today and they're saying the AC compressor needs to be replaced. We bought the car off the lot with 100miles on it and the dealer took delivery of the vehicle in March. How is it that a brand new Highlander already needs to have the compressor replaced?

I tried to talk to the service manager to get more details, but, he already left for the day. Should I be concerned? Is this a common issue? I've bought 3 other Toyotas in the past and never really had any issues. It's just odd that potentially the compressor was already broken/defective when I bought the car.

Any thoughts or input would be welcomed, thanks!

Ac

Sounds like you just had some bad luck. Eventually a bad compressor gets through the system. As long as it's corrected I would say you'll be fine. Good luck!

Agreed. After reading this forum since its inception, I've never seen anyone with your specific issue. I think it was a chance occurrence.

I suspect that your compressor problem is an isolated case. Hopefully, after it's replaced, you'll experience the same great A/C performance I have on my 2010 Highlander SE. I live in Phoenix, AZ where 110 deg in the summer is typical.

TrailDust is right. I too have never heard or read about any issues with the AC compressor. Might as well ask them to check the rear one as well.

At this point, it could be anything. But, why worry about it when it is still under warranty. Let the dealer deal with the headache.
