Angry Dealer BS

Dropped our 1 year old Toyota Highlander off at Toyota this morning because the window has popped of it's carrier and doesn't close tight, droops down when window is opened, and makes nasty noises

The guy actually just called me to tell me it probably won't be covered under warranty.......... Because we have our windows tinted.

Oh. He hasn't even popped the door trim off yet to see why the window is loose.

WTF.... You haven't even looked at it and your trying to void my warranty... Over window tint???

I told him if he even tried some crap like that, he'd be facing a Magnuson-Moss violation lawsuit

So after he actually looked at it, one of the nylon nuts and bolts which hold the window to the carrier came completely apart and the other was very loose.

Tech said it was "lock tite'd" and re-installed.

Apparently my tint was not the cause of the problem and it was covered under warranty.

Just totally ticks me off that dealers try this crap and then wonder why no one wants to deal with them.

Here's another event that happened at a VW dealer that just screams dealers are just a notch above the scumbag scale than lawyers:

Go right to the top and call the General Manager. If you get no traction call some other dealerships, explain the issue, and see what they say.

Most of the dealers around here, over the past few years, renovated their dealerships into these fancy sales/service areas. They need to pay for it somehow.

I'll never go to the dealer on Post Rd in Warwick RI again. And, the last two trips to the dealer in Lincoln RI, they recommended unneeded brake jobs, along with numerous unnecessary things on par with blinker fluid. Charge the customer...charge charge charge...

But, try to get them to fix something under warranty is akin to having teeth pulled without anesthesia.

Always stand your ground and get a 2nd opinion. Most consumers don't know any better and pay for whatever is recommended. Quality of Toyota has gone downhill, and the dealers have turned into a bunch of shysters.

I'm not sure what the deal is anymore - I suspect that Toyota barely pays it's dealerships for warranty work. Oddly - I never have warranty issues at VW, they replace or fix the problem and never try to blame it on something I may have done. In fact - I HAD caused a problem and they fixed it under warranty twice. The whole thing about selling unnecessary repairs is BS though

If you receive any hassles from this point onward and you feel you're being jerked around and not getting anywhere, don't hesitate to use the nuclear option: threaten to contact your state attorney general's office to file a complaint. Terror usually runs through their bodies and they fall all over themselves to find a resolution for you. Works for me every time, and the beauty of it is if they don't take the threat seriously then follow through on the complaint. I've had two repair shops take that route and one made good on my demands after contacted by the AG's office, and the other was put out of business for what turned out to be illegal practices they were doing. At any rate, here's a worthy link for you to keep in reserve:

I should have been more specific in my reply as I wrote it in the context that the issue was still outstanding. This can happen when you're working with four TN browser windows open at the same time....

That is in fact going the nuclear option. Used to work for the AG's Office handling these complaints. Some good stories. Glad your dealer did the right thing without you having to resort to the state complaint.

It's not so much of a dealer problem as it is an idiot for a service writer. Screaming lawsuit is a bit childish on your part as well... I'd go to the idiot's boss and complain.

Glad it got taken care of though...
