Possible Dealer lying

Does anyone know if the XM Radio ID that came with my HL 11 can be changed by the dealer?

I bought my car in for a CB player problem (doesn't read the info on most CDs). After a month (long story) they say they installed a new player - it shows the info for 1 cd but not for many other CDs, which all were read by my 08 HL.

The XM Radio is all setup the same as before I brought it in... the XM Radio ID is the same as before. I can not find on the web if the Radio ID on a car player can be changed by the dealer.

They either changed out the unit and the XM Radio ID, or did nothing.

I highly doubt it but call Sirus/XM to confirm.

XM radio

Each radio has a set ID that is particular to that unit. Since your unit was changed so did your ID. If you go to the XM website and log into your account you can enter your new ID number and then follow the instructions provided, which is to leave your radio on for sometime for it to receive the activation signal.

As far as your radio not still not being able to read the text on your CDs this is usually an issue with CDs that one burns at home. Unfortunately depending on the CD media used and the particular radio issues can and often do pop up. So you may have been to read it on your old radio on the new one it may not work correctly. This is also true for CDs loaded with many songs. The ones written on the CD located at the end of the CD can present some difficulty to being read by certain players.

Hope this helps and good luck!

From my understanding, they cannot change your radio ID, each radio is coded with it's own unique ID like the address on a network card. So if your radio ID is the same I don't think they did anything.
They would have had to call XM for you and let them know as a dealer they were transferring your account to a new radio, or they would have made you do it.

To me it doesn't sound like they did anything, it sounds like they tried to clean your old CD player.

Unless the XM is a module that plugs into the back of the radio, I haven't taken any of my toyotas out so I don't know, if it is a module than they would have been able to plug the existing XM module into the new radio.

On my 2008 the XM module is an add-on unit so even if the main head unit was changed the XM ID could stay the same.

Ever hear/see the term RADIO IS XM READY? I would say then that a device/module is needed to complete the process...ergo the same ID number on the radio.

XM radios are like Blackberry's, they have their own pin/code that goes with the device.
