First of all, VIN starts with 5 (American made right?). If so, is that a big deal? All of 2012's around Dallas seem to be American-made as well.
So it's Black/Ash, has Navigation, Tow Package, color-keyed side molding, premium carpet mat set.
Base is $35,920...installed options $3,384....Total MSRP $39,304.
So I ask, what would you pay for this demo vehicle (dealer couldn't tell me mileage--they will bring vehicle to my work tomorrow). I have no idea what kind of shape it's in.
Oh yeah, another dealership is selling me 2012 Black/Gray Ltd. w/out Navigation for $35,500 (exactly invoice he claims). Those are my 2 options.
6 months ago I bought a 2011 LTD with the same options except the navigation. The sticker price was $37,900. Final price was $33.9K. This didn't include taxes, plates or any rebates (I did financing).
It had 5000 miles on it and was about 5 months old.
From what I could figure, the invoice was right around $35.5K. Which seems to be in line with the 2012. So I was able to save another $1,500 or about 30 cents a mile. I figure this is comparable to what you would pay for a lease.
Couldn't find any good information on car web-sites or forums. My feeling is that whether you buy car with 0 miles or 5000 miles, it is going to be a used car when you drive it off the lot. So I thought the 30 cents a mile was fair.
I negotiated more than a few days. There may of been a little more room but at that point I thought it was fair and signed the paperwork. Good luck on your purchase.

Thats an interesting way of thinking about it, however, the official reimbursement rate is $0.55 per mile. Plus you need to factor in all the extra funding that the dealership can participate in to offset the dealer's COST of the vehicle including their "holdback" and the write off of the monthly expenses of using the vehicle as a demo.
Understand that a used (read demo) 2011 HL is worth very little to the dealership - especially as the same priced, equally equipped 2012 models arrive. hust my $0.02
Okay, so I looked at the demo vehicle. It ended up having 2,500K miles. It did look brand new. Excellent condition--a couple of minor blemishes that could probably be buffed out. So, the sales lady did a good job showing us everything inside and out, we went out for a test drive. So far, so good! Then, it was negotiating time!
She went to get a printout of the price of the car. At first, they were only willing to discount the car $615 off the MSRP!! Wow---for last year's model that was driven as a demo! I asked if that was her best offer. She asked what my offer was. I told her $32,500 and she said she'd be lucky to get invoice (~$35,600).
She told her manager my offer, he quickly came over, and in literally one minute said "if you found that good a deal at ___ Toyota (who offered invoice price on a 2012 w/out NAV for $35,500), you mise well go there. I can't compete" I was shocked! He was treating this '11 which is used (well not titled yet though) which acted as a DEMO as if it were a NEW CAR. I left, and that was the end of it. ____Toyota will be getting my business. Wish I hadn't wasted my time.
Oh yeah, I never got the manager's actual best offer, and so I called the sales lady back on my way home. She said his best offer was $36,999 + TTL (ABOVE INVOICE)! Unbelievable!! The competitor offered the same 2012 for invoice ($37,500).

You guys in the USA are so lucky to have those low prices. Here in canada i paid $40,500 for my 2011 sport 2-3 weeks ago, and that was considered a great deal as most dealers are selling the sport for $45,000 + and the ltd for about $48,000+
many dealers don't have in stock they are being sold strictly by order, makes me wonder if its and artifical shortage!?! To make matters worst the canadaian $$ is a shade higher in value than the us $$, its just hard to swallow.........
