2008-11 Front Seat Comfort Factor

Hello;

We are taller 6'1" and 5"10"- owners of a Camry. Thigh support on longer trips 4+hrs gives fatigue and is not adequate. Sequoia seats great- but not $ range- not us.

Q? We are thinking about adding a 2010 or 11 Highlander and want to know from people of similar size/length what the seat comfort factor might be for trips? Is the seat the same as the Camry.

DD commute is about 15miles..

thank you

I'm 6'3" 175lbs and had to customize the backrest on the driver's seat (since i'm the one driving). There is virtually no lumbar support and the seats are poorly shaped. I've also had a 2002 camry and the seats in it were better than in the HL (back support wise).

All in all Toyota's are made for short people and without much thought for ergonomics of the seats. I love the car but really hate the seat.

I ended up stuffing foam into the backrest to shape it into something more supportive. European cars have some of the best seats, but they are way more expensive, premium Japanese cars have decent seats, but they are also more expensive.

I'm 6'0". I find the limited seats to be very comfortable on long trips. The limited has lumbar support and a mechanical thigh extender. Both of those contribute to a comfy seat. You don't state which Model HL you are purchasing. However, nothing beats the lazy boy comfort of my old 1995 Ford Explorer..

limited is 10 way power
se is 8 way power
base is 8 way non-power

so i think the limited has the lumbar/leg support the se doesn't have

My wife and 18 yr old son both complained of an aching butt after an 8 hr trip in the '08. I've never driven it for more than 40 minutes at a stretch, so can't verify.

The '03 Pilot the HL replaced had great seats--a 10 hr trip was no problem.

Ha ha I think anyone's butt in ANY car would be aching after an 8 hour trip! I don't know it's been awhile since I've done that.

I am very happy with the drivers seat (2011 base) but my wife finds the passenger side not as good. I ended up buying a lumbar cushion (Canadian Tire) which helped her a lot.

its only for the driver not passenger seats.

Toyota's website lists the 2012's (and probably 2011's) as only having the 10 way (thigh support) on the limited. The 8 way is standard on the SE. The 10 way is not an option on the SE. It might have been an option on the previous model years though, so definitely something to look out for

I just came back from a 17 hour road trip in my '10 Limited and was fine...

From Atlanta GA back to Ontario Canada, in one day, and I was totally fine, the only thing that seemed to ache was my neck from resting my head on the headrest for a good portion of the trip.

Mind you, I've never really been picky about seat comfort, but I know anything over an hour and a half in my Sunfire is pure torture.

6'6" no problems with the HL seatwise, leg room is less than in my Sequoia but seats are just fine. I've driven 14 hours (each way) to Florida multiple times.

I would like to get more details on the driver's seat comfort.

I have a 2003 Highlander with power driver's seat. It is not too bad but sometimes it gets uncomfortable ( I commute around 90 miles per day) especially when hitting slow traffic.
The nice thing I can adjust it to different settings while driving.

So now I am considering the 2008-2010 Highlander and have been trying to find one with Power Seat also.

Does anyone have a comparison between the 1st generation Highlander seats and the new 2nd Generation seats? Have they changed or redesigned the seats?

Probably your best bet would be to stop in your local dealer and sit in one. Maybe even take a test drive.
