Canada Towing with a 2009 Highlander Hybrid?

Hi there,

Just wondering what experiences others may be able to relate to me about towing a trailer with a 2009 Highlander Hybrid?

I've been using the stock Toyota hitch and 4 wire trailer wiring to pull a utility trailer for a few years now, but we're considering purchasing a tent trailer that has electric brakes and thus a 7 wire connector would be needed. The trailer weight is probably in the 2000 lb range, so it's well within the published towing capacity of the vehicle... but I'm curious how the CVT and other components will stand up to some pulling of longer durations???

Cheers,
Dion

I have been infrequently pulling a 1500 LB. tent trailer. With trailer packed weight was probably 1,800. I had no problems from the Highlander except gas mileage was under 18mpg. I have not upgraded the wiring harness. I also do not have brakes.Look at old posts or Do a search on installing trailer wires for Highlander. Remove the driver's side inner fender to run the wires along side of the hood release cable. By the way I also had 2 kayaks straped on the roof. Again no problems. Be sure to add an extra wire from the battery to power a battery on your trailer. I love the back up camera for hooking up to the trailer.

For the 7 wire setup, see

Wiring for 7 Wire Trailer Setup

You will have NO problems towing a tent trailer at all.
