How to open trunk while car running?

Hopefully this makes sense. We just got a '12 Limited, and it seems like the only way to use the remote to open the trunk is while the car is off. Is there a way to open the trunk with the remote while the car is running? The button on the remote does not seem to open trunk while car is running, and while we are using remote INSIDE vehicle.

Thanks!

Why do you want to use the remote while inside the car? Why dont you use the trunk release button? It works when the car is still running.

I was just wondering. Since the remote was right in my wife's hands, she tried to push the "open trunk" button, but it wasn't working. We had to turn the car off, and then get out, and then the remote "open trunk" button would work. Just thought it would be handy to be able to use it since it is on the remote.

Thanks for the replies. Apparently my wife wasn't holding the latch down long enough. I guess the remote is set up NOT to open trunk while car is running.

The remote wont work inside the car while the car is running because of the keyless setup. The key stays in your pocket or bag or whatever so this is to prevent accidental remote button commands.

^ This. Imagine traveling down the highway at 65 mph and suddenly the rear hatch is opening. Or worse, you're backing up near something and the button is accidentally pressed, your rear hatch goes up and you then run into something with the hatch.

I have thought of that. I figured it was a safety feature. At the time, it would have been useful (the example I was giving). It's okay though. No biggie.
