2nd Generation Parking / Emergency brake cable adjustment HL 2009

On my 2009 Highlander Limited, I have found that there is a small opening in the cover/ dash cowling right above the foot pad on the P/E brake pedal. A 10mm deep socket on an extension fits over the adjustment nut on the end of the cable. There is no need to take off the side panel cover to take up slack in the cable.
The opening is about a half inch in size. looking straight up, you should see the threaded end of the cable and the silver adjustment nut. I turned it clockwise to tighten the cable.

If you have to adjust your E brake much, you need to check out your brake pads / shoes. Sounds like they are worn out.

I will have to replace the rear disk pads soon and I'll take a look at parking pads then. Or, are they the same? I haven't been in there yet.
Normally, I don't use the parking break. I do use it when launching and retrieving my 4,800 Lb boat/trailer. The brake needed to be pushed pretty hard to keep the vehicle from rolling back toward the water. After a while, the brake wouldn't hold it. I figured the cable stretched as they do under a lot of strain. I haven't looked into adjusting the pads yet.
I'll see in a month or so and report back.
Thanks for the post.
Dave

It is cool that they provided such an easy way to adjust the cable though... Most are much more difficult.
